Default Selling an iPhone 5

I've bought a iPhone 5 at the Apple Retail store in my area few months ago, now I want to sell it and get a different phone, I've 39 positive feedback on eBay, is there any tips on how to avoid scammers as this is a high risk item, I don't want buyer to open a case demaning a refund saying it's not working or it's not genuine as I've all the iPhone information and the receipt from Apple

39 feedback is a bit low.

Why not look at other options? eg, gumtree?

Think carefully about ebay and avoid if possible

I've used eBay and Paypal fees calculator and it says it will take £60 fees, should I set the buyer requirements high so I don't get messed about?

I know 39 feedback is low but if I sell on Gumtree, I've to meet up with the person to trade hand to hand, I don't want to do that, the world is getting bad, don't want to get mugged

And you have not considered the mugging you will get from ebay or paypal?

Right.

Try your local buy/sell/swap groups on Facebook. Loads of people sell their phones that way. It's local, usually face to face so your in control, just make sure you don't meet any one when your on your own and it's cash in hand, no fees.

You would never go to some meeting alone in any case

You would have another person with you. I would enlist the help of a male. You meet the other party somewhere safe

Just options to consider

Meet in public place and have a friend along - does work...people aren't so bad when placed in the right places...

I don't think Gumtree will work out for me, if I sell it on eBay and set a high Buyer Requirement so I can avoid scammers?

Word of mouth or instead listing on eBayClassified is much better. I have lost a bit with dishonest buyers, if you find one of these, your world will look upside down. eBay does side with buyers in most cases; don't be a victim.

You would have to sell the phone for £600 to pay fees like that, and I am pretty sure iPhone 5's do not go for that much these days, new one is just around the corner after all.

If you sell the phone, only send to a verified address and make sure you post it with correct insurance value and make sure you get a signature on delivery. Make that clear on your listing and that will help deture the scammers.

Do not accept offers though the eBay messaging systems offering to buy it outside of eBay. More than likely a scam.

Just be careful who you sell it to. Check there feedback, feedback left for others ect.

Do not let someone pay via PayPal and then collect the item. That can turn bad very fast

Agreed, but OP seems fairly determined to sell on EB, so may as well do it as safely as possible.

Suggestions such as Facebook and Gumtree are very good options.

Still risky on eB but that is up to the OP to experiment and try - successful sellers of iPhones are unlikely to give explicit help/tactics for obvious reasons

What Buyer Requirement options should I select to avoid scammers?

Also is there anything I should say in my listing and what images should I include?

Images of the phone would be a pretty good start, and a description of a phone would also go a long way.

How you will post it, how long it will take you to post ect are other things to mention.

Make sure you record all details of the phone, serial numbers the lot.

I've taken the pictures of the iPhone to post on my eBay listing, how do I charge my buyer insurance? I normally include the postage in the price so it looks better

What Royal Mail service should I use? Do I tell the Post Office that the item worth is £500?

I would use Royal Mail Special Delivery, and tell them the value = to the receipt value.

I got the iPhone from the Apple Store for £529, so I tell them that value? So telling them the value means it's insured from Royal Mail?

How do I charge my buyer insurance? Also do you know the estimate of how much it will cost to post it with Royal Mail Special Delivery?

Charge them what it costs for Royal Mail Special delivery. That will cover the insurance.
