Halifax Online Saver Alternative ??

I know we sometimes need to call paypal to add these accounts but is there any other online savers accounts out there that work the same?

What i like about these accounts are:

1. You can use any name for deposits.

2. They are set up instantly and you have an account number straight away.

frksmth 07-05-2013 10:29 PM

Lloyds easy saver and Barclays easy saver have been working the same way for me :)

GreenBean 07-05-2013 10:38 PM

Barclays is OK.

Avoid lloyds. Bank is not on the suggested list

Confirmed to have exchanged info with PayPal

:nono:

frksmth 07-05-2013 10:54 PM

Thanks for that GreenBean, looks like I may have to change the bank account on three accounts. Although, they have been working fine for the past year... Would you recommend that I change the bank on PayPal or leave it as it is, for now?

GreenBean 07-06-2013 07:33 AM

@frksmth

Add a new bank account only

No need to remove one

Be careful when doing transfers

This is how I do it
Good Luck

I use Co-Op and Smile mostly. No issues to date.

Bulldog 07-06-2013 10:53 AM

Thanks for all the replies.

Ill avoid lloyds then....lol

I just had a look at the barclays easy saver account but it says that they have discontinued them now.

I'm sure that smile need to send you out paperwork before they open the account so not as instant as the halifax account is.

Is co-op the same?

JamesNorth101 07-06-2013 12:12 PM

Never had to send paper work for mine, just wait 3 or 4 days for it to arrive in the post

Be careful to not open or apply for too many accounts in too short a time

That's what i meant mate, you need to wait for the paperwork to get the account numbers also it takes them a few days to set it up...etc.

With halifax you get everything at the end of the application.

Does the co-op savings account work the same as the halifax one?

Also what barclays saving account do you all use now they have discontinued the easy saver accounts?

GreenBean 07-06-2013 08:36 PM

What Barclays have done is discontinued the easy savers account unless the customer already have one.

GreenBean 07-06-2013 08:46 PM

Prbolem is savers can reject the DD mandate.

Maybe look for basic accounts instead.

Are there banks that you can sign up as a new customer online?

Yes a number, Smile I know for a fact you can. A number of basic accounts as well. Use google to search for basic accounts, have a look at the site for the banks that come up and see if they let you apply online.

sax4 07-19-2013 11:30 AM

Ok. Also I was looking at Yorkshire Bank, they do a Prepaid Card that also acts as a bank account, and you don't need to have a bank account with them

About the Yorkshire Bank Prepaid Card

JamesNorth101 07-19-2013 11:52 AM

I could be wrong, but it does not look like it comes with a bank account or a sort code, which as far as I know means it is no good for PP. Open to being corrected though.

sax4 07-19-2013 01:32 PM

It says

"Have your wages paid directly to your card by your employer for FREE!"
"Transfer money from any bank account to your card for FREE!"

Also look at the bottom of this page:

Yorkshire Bank Prepaid Card - How to top up

sax4 07-19-2013 01:34 PM

Also you can have up to 5 cards per household :)

JamesNorth101 07-19-2013 01:37 PM

But as I mentioned it does not have a bank account number or a sort code, so cannot be used on PP. I know the Americans can withdraw to cards sometimes, but I am unaware of us Brits being able to do it.

sax4 07-19-2013 01:53 PM

Ah, I saw this, but it seems like this is their account, and with the reference number it get's routed to your account.

Bummer :(

Payee/Recipients Name: 360money Direct Deposit
Account Number: 80212458
Sort code: 20-03-53
Payment Reference: The 14 digit account number on the back of your card

JamesNorth101 07-19-2013 03:35 PM

I have never used this method, so there may well be a way to make it work, but I am unsure of it.
