How do you decide to send recorded or not?

I thought if under £10 then don't send recorded.

However I bought an item for roughly £22 was sent without recorded.

What % of your buyers claim lost? Or does it depend on value / category

Thanks

If it costs me £30 or more I tend to send recorded.

Really its just down to if you want to hit a small hit on the ROI %

you will get virtually no claim lost for low priced items eg. stuff under a fiver but the more expensive you go eg £10 and over the chances rise, but I would say still under 1% claim lost.....the postal service and customers are generally good in UK....

From my personal experience (items in the range 15$ to 40$) more and more people is claiming lost item.
It became a popular method of getting stuff for free unfortunately.

I'd agree with oompa on a figure of 1%.

I tend to go recorded delivery when the value goes over £20.

Each to their own though.

Re: How do you decide to send recorded or not?

I created an equation for this, if it is an item I send regularly. Problem is the refund rate is projected because I have not sold many of the items.

Money (after fees) - $2 shipping vs. Money (after fees) - $0.55 shipping - added refund rate - cost of goods for not getting them back as it has "not arrived"

The item I sell generally goes for $4-$12 in auction. Anything over $6.5 I ship with tracking, the item cost me $1.5 per. It is something I can sell in high volume although I am having trouble stocking.

Also, it is good to do a little research on the person if you can. I recently sent un-tracked to someone and their response for a refund seemed so obviously ⊗⊗⊗⊗ and really fast. I did a quick google search to see they had a lengthy criminal record. If you have time to do these kind of searches please do, could save you a few times. You know to send tracked to someone like that. Or if it is a high value item not ship at all and just give them a refund.

If a buyer claims they have not received it and I sent without tracking, I apologize profusely and send a refund. Even though 80% of these people are probably lying it is the best option for my business.

That's a good advice, but when you are selling large quantities that's a lot of a hassle, and I am not sure if you can check these records have the same availability here in the UK.

I also get some "item not received" claims which you can most of the time tell if they are genuine or not. I refund those too, as I need to keep my business alive. That's just a price we have to pay...

its all a personal thing. I send recorded at over £20, anything lower and the cost of recorded just works out too expensive overall

gets confusing if you send overseas though as royal mail international signed for is the biggest waste of time as no signature on the other side and you end up losing any potential cases with paypal
