Weird situation where buyer paid by eCheque

Week before last i sold an item and the buyer paid via eCheque, it was still pending to be cleared. Everytime i had an echeque it always failed. So i opened up a case after 3 days of selling it. Coupla days ago, still didnt clear so i closed a case and received a fee credit. Today the cheque clears and payment has been made. Paypal is saying its safe to send item however on eBay the item was unsold and i cant leave feedback. What should i do? I'd just send the item off right?

Edit: He messaged me 2 days ago saying he has a problem with his account and to cancel the order (this is before the echeque clearing)

If you have been paid the money, send the item.

Why would you open a case when you receive a cheque payment?
Not all payments will fail.
It was wrong what you did in my opinion.

But you received the money so the right thing to do is to send the item.

Why not message the buyer asking if he still wants the item. If he does not, issue a full refund.
