Natwest Basic Account - now difficult to get

Here we go. I just applied for a Basic account, got one a couple of months ago easy. Problems now, they wanted more detailed info then they don't give me the account and suggest they will be asking me to send in docs. Has anyone else encountered this?

Yes you have to go into the bank with docs if you are not on the electoral register.

Re: Natwest Basic Account - now difficult to get

Hiya, just had this problem myself. Same situation, opened a second basic account a few months back and it was done in a matter of minutes online - This time I was asked to sign a customer agreement and either post it back to them, or come into a branch with i.d to sign one.

I must say, they are nosey, so watch yourself. Pass it off as an OCD thing where you need different accounts for different things to keep yourself organised - they can't fault that.

I doubt it's an electoral register issue as I didn't encounter this problem previously despite being on there. When I asked the member of staff why it had changed I was given a rather wooly answer of "You updated your mobile number in the process of applying for a new account so thats why".

You should also take into account whether you ticked the box of "already have an account with Natwest" during the application process? If you do, they also just ask you to bring along your bank card and sign the agreement as presumable they already have the information from your first account?

I'd be interested in hearing how it goes and what it was that caused i.d verification straight off the bat?

I just opened a bank account online with Tesco, and a saver at the same time.. no ID, no fuss.. if you were looking for an alternative.

I am on the electoral register though, if that makes a difference to your situation.

Another tip if you have any dead bank accounts that you can no longer use with paypal, then use another banks switch service and tell them to shut the account down.

I heard off someone that they tend to go through a lot easier in most cases.

Natwest isn't the easiest to have multiple accounts, I had 6 at one point - they didn't like it but nothing could be done.

Halifax Easycash isn't easy anymore - 1 Easycash account, if you apply for more you will get rejected

Yes I used to have loads Bunneh, this happened only about 6-8 weeks ago. There isn't a feature when signed in to online banking to apply online anymore, asks you to send a form off by post, then they send it back rejecting it

Is there any limit on how many you can open

Just opened another one and was done instantly.

The only odd thing it does not show up with my other halifax accounts and has seperate sign in details

Yeah I know, but why not just use savers than transfer to your easy cash to withdraw

Still not showing up with my other accounts so I think I will have to call them once the card turns up and the number for use.

But for anyone trying it. I don't even think they are checking their own system let alone any other so a good time to try before they realize and change it.

did you sign up with a different email or address when you did the new one?
Since this will effect it and make you have new log in details.

How did you manage that? I called 'em up the other day asking about another account, and they tried to push me into opening a business one (involves a new credit check. Btw, Natwest biz accounts are owned by RBS).

This was a long time ago but I just seemed to open quite a few, they did ask questions in the branch, just said I like to have an account to separate each of my outgoings. The 'folder method' is a good excuse ;)
