Have you checked the coverage in your area?

Some networks are better than others.

Also, I am wondering if the OP has anything downloading as well?

I had trouble the other day with access to some site.

Re: tethering problems

Always worth checking the background downloads that Microsoft loves. Totally unnoticeable if you have a decent connection, but when your connection is already slow they can really drag it to a turtles pace. Disabled all of mine now

Re: tethering problems

I have 3 bars upstairs use the same place all the time and im on 3 network with unlimited tethering deal and there's a device on ebay called Nextivity Cel-Fi RS2 Signal Boosters Mobile phone repeater for 3 UK -CELFI-RS210 its reviews say its excellent but price is £490.00 should i buy it?

stevebills 09-01-2014 04:40 AM

Re: tethering problems

going to restart my phone and pc and try again

JamesNorth101 09-01-2014 04:44 AM

Re: tethering problems

3 bar with 3G? 4G?

stevebills 09-01-2014 04:44 AM

its only 3g

my tv is working and that tethers off the same connection for sky

3 is not the best signal but it was the only one with unlimited tethering when i got the sim deal

is the Nextivity Cel-Fi RS2 worth buying as sure it would still be worth a lot when i sell it on in the future?

JamesNorth101 09-01-2014 04:50 AM

Re: tethering problems

Do not really need unlimited tethering for eBay. A couple of gigabytes would be more than enough.

Your TV tethers...? I cannot see that being the case.

I would ask 3 themselves for a signal booster. They will have there own ones that will be a lot cheaper than £500 odd

stevebills 09-01-2014 04:58 AM

I need it for my tv and i haven't got broadband here so the signal booster 3 give out would not work it connects to the internet modem
I actually have one sat in the cupboard

just turned skybox off and still cant get on ebay site

stevebills 09-01-2014 05:08 AM

Re: tethering problems

using the ping tool i can ping aspkin but not ebay its annoying me now

stevebills 09-01-2014 05:11 AM

I think 3 network must be having a bad day with some servers

might get fiber installed and us the 3 network booster box or buy the Nextivity Cel-Fi RS2
need a re think now
and u recon a dongle with 2gb should also work well?

JamesNorth101 09-01-2014 05:19 AM

Re: tethering problems

So lets just get this clear

You need to connect your TV to your phone while it is tethering? Or you need to connect your Sky box to your phone? Pretty big difference.

As you said signal booters generally need to be plugged into a broadband socket, although no doubt there are some which do not need that. Simplest solution as far as I can tell would be to get actual broadband.

Your sky box should have nothing to do with eBay....

stevebills 09-01-2014 05:19 AM

Re: tethering problems

Vodafone is a strong signal might be worth nipping out and getting a dongle off them or 02 one
or giffgaff sim on data only and putting it in a dongle?
and ideas welcome pls

JamesNorth101 09-01-2014 05:23 AM

Re: tethering problems

You are seem to be making everything a lot more hard work than it really is here Steve.

I suggest you just get regular dynamic broadband. Nice and simple.

stevebills 09-01-2014 05:23 AM

Re: tethering problems

sky box is a spider-box its tethering at the moment to get scrabbled channels and yes its nothing to do with ebay it just shows my tethering is working with another device
so option is buy broadband and utilizes the 3 home signal box in the draw or buy a dongle with 2gb or buy the nextivity box and other ideas?

stevebills 09-01-2014 05:24 AM

Re: tethering problems

or wait a few hours see if ebay is playing out again

Re: tethering problems

I've got unlimited tethering and my son pointed out this will solve my IP address problems with Ebay. Just restart phone before logging in.

Ive been given access to a friends Ebay account all week and now have another available. But i've been logging IP addresses and todays was ONE digit out from yesterdays.

Is it really safe - or shall i dedicate a mifi device and sim for each account? Do the mobile networks repeat IP addresses while tethering - and do ebay log every one?

I used my tethering many times on my banned account but wasn't logging IP addresses then. Don't want to get anyone banned.

Hope ive not messed up then. I was doing everything slowly, but my sons a bit of an IT wizz and convinced me it was fine.

Got all limits removed on friends paypal and ebay accounts and was mine to use at will. Hope its not already damaged.

But surely if the network just pulls an IP address every time i log in, and some are repeated - someone else on the same network will be getting one of my old ones - and be linked for no reason?
