Do I get a defect when I issue partial refund in ebay?

Normally I would issue partial refund as a direct money sent via PayPal but when I dont have the persons PP id since its more than 90 days, I was wondering if ebay would apply defect to my account for issuing partial refund directly via ebay even if the person has not left any negative or neutral feedback?

If no case is opened and a buyer just messages you asking for a refund, if you just log into paypal and issue the refund , whether it's partial or full it's no defect

The defect comes when a case is open and you need to refund

Thanks for the update.

To clarify something, is there a defect whenever a case is open by a buyer for whatever reason. Same thing as a return request?

Thanks

I'm Sure it depends on whatever reason the buyer chooses from the drop down list.
