| oompaloompa | 12-26-2008 03:36 PM | voip hi
Has anyone successfully registered with VOIP as a seller in UK, you need a landline number for that, does anyone know of one that has a landline number format. |
| citypark | 12-27-2008 12:52 AM | Haven't you tried some VOIPs oompa? I will let you know if any works. |
| oompaloompa | 12-27-2008 05:10 AM | all the ones Ive looked in to dont give landline number just other like 056.
on forum someone mentioned one with fax number that you can use call forwarding on, unsure if that would wok though as it would be a fax tone.
vonage etc have landline but that is the same as virtual number but for £5.99 pcm thats more expensive than straightforward vrtual number from tamar etc.. |
| tommybod | 01-04-2009 02:28 PM | I'm in the middle of using voipfone uk to try and verify an account. Its the usual free to set up but you can have an area coded number of your choice for £1.99/month, I'll let you know how it goes. |

| tommybod | 01-05-2009 12:38 PM | The contract is only month by month, it is an easy case of cancelling it from your account. I tried it last night though and it didn't work for me, doesn't mean it won't work for somebody else though . I've got another option I'm going to try, so it may work with this, again, I'll keep you posted.
UPDATED: tried again, unplugged the earphone jack and played the keypad tones through the laptop speakers with the microphone held against them. Worked on the third attempt, so this method definately works :D |
| karenc76 | 01-09-2009 03:15 PM | hi tommy can you explain how you did this with your laptop as i have both a pc and laptop im planning on using laptop to create a new account |

| tim89 | 01-15-2009 01:51 PM | ebay need to make a account |
| freakazoid789 | 01-19-2009 09:59 AM | Make sure u cancel ur subscription as its a direct debit |
| oompaloompa | 04-11-2009 07:15 AM | can we confirm if voip is still working re ebay , recent experiences please.....
seen a recent post who said didnt work for paypal, may be a reason, voip recycle numbers for a start, link to suspended user? I thought voip was ok for paypal generally but for location verification, ie instead of the slip to the address you had to be geographically very close or the letter goes out... |
| haorichards | 04-11-2009 02:46 PM | voipfone works but if you live in an area code that is for instance 01999 500600 and you can only pick 01999 700200 since the 700200 is not the range for your address maybe a few miles away paypal wont recognise it and will probably send you something in the post thats what happened to me last time so if your in barking london and you give then 0207 ilford number it doesnt match the code for your address your have to wait for the post, not good if you give a ⊗⊗⊗⊗ address |
| vetus | 04-13-2009 11:22 AM | I don't think voip works well with paypal, its hit and miss. |
| crazed_ebayer | 04-16-2009 01:04 PM | The landline phone verification problem is easy to sort out - providing you live at home , have access to a landline and are not a online farudster/scam artis who moves from hotel to hotel.
If you have a landline number ring bt and get them to send you a call sign number for about £ 1.75 a month.
Then , when you have used both these numbers ring BT again and get them to change both numbers .
They will issue you 2 new numbers within 7 working days that can be used for ebay/Paypal .
You can do this over and over and over again.
If you need more numbers than this then you are probably a scam artist (i.e selling counterfiet goods or commiting fraud ) |

If your home address gets suspended , you will need another address, it only has to happen once and thats your details gone, and I wouldnt be so sure of yourself that it wont happen to you |
| crazed_ebayer | 04-16-2009 07:11 PM | I disagree , it's nothing to do with your home address.
They have computer systems that recognise telephone numbers / credit card details that have been used previously.
The same is not true about " an address " , infact my address is probably the only thing i don't change when opening an account .
It takes a real person to screen an account address and block it , and for a real person to do that you must have done something pretty serious.
The fact is it's actually quite gard to get totally blocked from ebay , ok , they might suspend you untill you have submitted more details or restirct an account with no good reason but to get completely thrown off for good is difficult , the majority of people who get NARD for good are up to no good.
A minority of people are NARD unjustly , and to them i sympathise , but the fact is a lot of people are using ebay accounts as something disposable . |
| oompaloompa | 04-17-2009 02:16 AM | their system recognises phone numbers etc, yes, but I would assume it also recognises, at bit like avs system the door number and postcode combination too.
If you have been suspended for whatever reason and you reuse the same address, you are saying that down the line that wont be a problem, hmm, contradicts general forum opinion.... |
| crazed_ebayer | 04-17-2009 07:49 AM | I'm not saying use the exact same postcode , because their is computer system that detects this . Nothibg wrong with entering the same street , number etc.
There is too many accounts to screen this . |
| oompaloompa | 04-18-2009 03:57 AM | ok, but when you get limited, and a real person looks at address that the postcode doesnt correlate to and youve got to send in say a bank statement with that exact address on it, well you are handing in id for an invalid address, could be picked up real easy......
Im not saying I havent done that cause I have but it might backfire on me one day |

| oompaloompa | 04-21-2009 02:23 PM | When I set up another ebay account I will post back, in the meantime keep this poll going guys and try tamartelecommunications, more expensive though... |
| vetus | 04-22-2009 01:03 AM | Voip is hit and miss, works for some but not for others. |

I tried 2 voipfone landline numbers on 2 sets of ebay & PP accounts today, here is the outcome below:
The first accounts - It wanted credit card & phone verification with paypal which failed all 3 times and is now sending the code in the post (luckily i used a real address) - and with ebay when registering credit card it didn't ask to call at all.
The second accounts - It didn't want phone verification with paypal at all, only requested bank account and direct debit info - and with ebay it wanted to call after adding my credit card but says "We were not able to verify the phone number you provided" In RED on the call now page.
So it looks like we need to find something better than voipfone for the future, if anyone knows PM me please.
Also i didn't know they mixed around the process of registering now, the last time i set a load of accounts up one after another it was always the same routine. |
be careful guys when makin accounts now they dont automatically ask to confirm landline , but if you try to withdraw funds you will be limited for not doing the phonecall
you have to manually got to " add or remove cc "
then on the right hand side of the card details you have with pp it will say " add and confirm location "
click that and it will do the old 4 digit code thingy
dont forget guys , or youll be limited in a flash
im sure its another one of their traps to get everyone to send docs in from the outset |
| oompaloompa | 04-25-2009 08:04 AM | super is 100% correct.
I have checked in to this and VOIP works to make seller account, end of story, using softfone, you guys are doing it wrong, maybe you should check in to it again and forward to a landline that is beneficial. |

I lift limits with whatever they ask for eg bank acc and business info, if they dont ask for phone call i dont do it.
Can we establish from anyone else if they have been limited for not doing this procedure ie manually adding card and doing location call at the start. |
| greatgoods.2890 | 04-28-2009 08:38 AM | more probs with voip :rant: i tried to add funds to my voip acc to divert calls to my landline, and now it is saying i am disabled from using it......... |

have you fuilly verified yourself with the voip service ? you must use real info there and onece verified you are free to use it without restriction |
| GreenBean | 04-28-2009 07:33 PM | Supersella is correct. Any services off ebay/paypal should be in your own ID. It is commonsense to do that.:peace: |
| greatgoods.2890 | 04-30-2009 08:40 AM | Oh yes, everything was in my own name etc.......
I tried to vertify too early, and voip caught on what i was doing, using their service for automated calls (from ebay)
they then disabled my acc, and r asking what i want to use their service for!!
but u learn by ur mistakes!! i will know in future
Any suggestions what i could say i am using there service for? |
| haorichards | 04-30-2009 09:05 AM | voip works if you redirect your internet number to your mobile phone or landline you just need to top up the account with £5 to activate it, i just did it 2 days ago and ive succesfully opened a new paypal account |
| splatman | 05-18-2009 11:21 PM | My voipfone uk experience wasn't positive, i was able to get as far as receiving the call from paypal and even entered the code successfully, however i got a mail almost immediately saying they where unable to verify the number
"Using publicly available databases, we were unable to match your address to the phone number you selected"
I have 4 more numbers with the voipfone and will try to open 3 new accounts today and see if they are a success or not.
But for me Skype works fine.
ANy other suggestions as i am weary of the paypal-skype link |

I have noticed voipfone use some different codes for some towns, ie: The Bristol code is 01179 but on voipfone its 01172 |
| splatman | 05-19-2009 02:15 AM | In My Opinion Voipfone - DOES NOT WORK
I have tried 3 times - FAILED 3 Times
Trotter - Used the right code to match the postcode
The first 4 digits are fine - i am wondering if its the next 3 that are the problem as they are not a normal 3 digit for my area. |
| GreenBean | 05-19-2009 02:28 AM | Splat,
two choices, send a pm to supersella on this forum OR contact voip's Customer Service. No use banging on it doesn't work if you have not tried
all options:peace: |
| splatman | 05-19-2009 03:10 AM | I will try supersella, Voipfone works, it just wont work for me when trying to get verification through a divert.
I will get there with a little help.
