| | | | | jjscruff | 08-18-2016 05:55 AM | Tough UK Paypal Problem My paypal bank account- Sainsburys bank - told me they were closing my account for using it for business purposes
So i opened a lloyds business bank account. But when i tried to add it to paypal it kept coming up with this bank account is "disabled"
Having googled, it appeared to be a common bug, so i called paypal to get them to add it manually
For the first time ever - me using multiple stealth accounts for 4 years - they asked me personal info like my address, DOB. But then they told me they knew i was using a vpn!
They said they blocked the new bank account for security purposes and that they need more recent proof of address since my last one was from 2014. But they haven't sent me a message in paypal or my email to say they are expecting these documents. They said i can continue to use my old bank account (now closed)
There's >10K in the papyal account that has accumulated during the time my first bank closed and my new one opened.
Now i can't add a new bank to withdraw it
The account does not appear to be limited yet....
How on earth am i going to get those funds?
NB i know to use a better VPN next time |

1 - Lloyds is not good to use for stealth. Nor is TSB
2 - They will be able to see anyone that is using a VPN. There is nothing wrong with using a VPN though, lots of people use them for legitimate reasons so that isn't really something to worry about |

| JamesNorth101 | 08-18-2016 06:12 AM | Re: Tough UK Paypal Problem It looks like a few people are saying its fine and a few people are saying its not OK
Generally if quite a few people say to not use it then its best to just avoid it. |
| Twisty | 08-18-2016 06:31 AM | Re: Tough UK Paypal Problem I personally will not use a VPN. Paypal dont care if you have a valid reason for using a VPN. They will be under the impression that you are trying to hide your location.
Its too risky in my opinion.
Forget Lloyds. There are loads of other banks you can use.
I would wait a few days and then try adding a different bank account. It it doesnt work then call them up and ask them to add it manually.
If that doesnt work then you may need to ask them how to provide the documentation they have asked for over the phone. |
| Bunneh | 08-18-2016 06:43 AM | Re: Tough UK Paypal Problem have you not got anoher bank you can use?
like Natwest, barclays, RBS or Halifax?
its only disabled for that one account number. It usually happens when you add the bank account to soon after opening the account. |

VPNs are fine to use so long as the right VPN is used
Certain VPNS are know to be used by scammers so in the case of those VPNs then yes PayPal will assume you are upto no good
Choose the right VPN and there wont be an issue |

| You dont understand the point i am making. The point is that Paypal know you are using a VPN and you may get questioned. Im not talking about a good or bad VPN or whether it is allowed or not allowed. Its about the risk element. I personally wont take the risk. A dongle is much more safer if you track your IP's.
If you have £10k in your account, Paypal will probably probe a bit more than normally. |

yeah this makes sense to me
Do they detect a VPN from IP addresses you use - so regular ones are known - or can paypal just detect you are connecting anonymously via a VPN connection? |

What part of this account could lead papyal to want to do checks?
It took me bloody ages to get that account up and running, meeting with them, talking to them for an hour during a work day talking about my "goals" and running checks. |

maybe try calling paypal again, you get all kinds of reps with different answers on the phone. someone may just help you. |
Re: Tough UK Paypal Problem £10k yikes, I would not even keep £1k in a Paypal account.
Did they come straight out with the VPN thing "By the way, we can see you are using a VPN"
A quality VPN should give you no IP related troubles |

Surely you'd need to go in to show them ID and stuff like that if you're opening a business bank |

Surely you'd need to go in to show them ID and stuff like that if you're opening a business bank | It was in May this year - perhaps it was because my main current account is with them already so no need for all that ID jazz. |

| jjscruff | 08-18-2016 02:10 PM | Re: Tough UK Paypal Problem okay so main suggestions so far
- wait a while and try adding a non lloyds bank account
- try calling again and hope for the best (don't really want to be quizzed by paypal again)
- ask them how i can provide the information they asked for and risk having it scrutinized and a limitation put on my account, with no means to withdraw the balance £10k+ |
| jjscruff | 08-18-2016 03:22 PM | Re: Tough UK Paypal Problem i've read through every thread about UK banks and lloyds and now i see their reputation
But i haven't found many actual experiences from people who can say they have tried it, and what problems happened with lloyds
But i am taking out a smile bank account and will try that when its live |
Re: Tough UK Paypal Problem They know if your using a vpn or not from your isp
they have a list of all residential isps |
| peghmeypong | 08-20-2016 04:55 AM | Re: Tough UK Paypal Problem Whilst Lloyds has a bad reputation for stealth in this forum, those problems are at Lloyds end, not PayPal.
I don't believe for one second that the bank choice is the problem here.
I think you have to get he ID situation cleared before you can add a bank and that you should be able to use the Lloyds, at least in the short term.
OP, Forget all the talk of VPNs for now.
For christ's sake, don't withdraw £10k+ in one go if/when this is sorted.
Start with smaller amounts and wait till they go through. First few may be 72-hour withdrawals. |
| Jamjam | 08-20-2016 06:18 AM | Re: Tough UK Paypal Problem I opened my PayPal the other day and got the same issue. Well mine said bank account disabled. Phoned my bank, nothing wrong with it. Phoned PayPal who tried adding it manually for me and failed.
The rep told me to try again later. I waited 24 hours, tried to add the bank and it worked. It wasn't Lloyds bank though and I had just created the account when I was trying to add the account.
Hopefully that helps. |
| JamesNorth101 | 08-21-2016 07:17 AM | Re: Tough UK Paypal Problem Which bank was that?
When you say you just created the account, was it the bank account or the PayPal you had just created?
With a few banks you need to wait 2/3 days after the bank account has been created before trying to add it to PayPal | | All times are GMT -5. The time now is 06:00 PM. | |
