Royal Mail Postage prices Increase EEK!!

First class recorded is currently £3.65
and now its increasing to:
1st Class Recorded Small Parcels prices start from £4.10
1st Class Recorded Medium Parcels prices start from £6.75

At this rate my DSR's are going to go out the window

How on earth are we to cope with this yet again!!!
Its not like the service changes along with the price...

In some instances it is cheaper to buy a travel card to take it to the buyer personally :juggle:

stevebills 03-04-2013 09:25 AM

Happens every year so it should be no big deal for you or buyers providing you prepare for it well in advance.

how does parcel2go work? im on their site but its kinda confusing me, i normally send stuff which each item is under a kilo and costs me $4.45 for 2nd class recorded.
need something similar but cheaper

Use them at your own risk, their service is diabolically bad.

Stick with RM, people get over the annual price rises in postage cost very quickly.

As I said if you prepare for it correctly then it should cause you no issues with customer feedback or DSR ratings

Killuminati 03-04-2013 12:56 PM

Parcel 2 go is only good for heavy bulky items as stevebills suggested

It compares the cheapest prices and services

Prophecy 03-04-2013 06:07 PM

What about signing up for a Royal Mail business account? If you sell 10 or more items a day, then this is their rate:

Service: 24 hours (This is their glorified way of saying 1st Class, LOL)
Weight: 125 grams
Dimensions: 270mm x 170mm x 35mm (D1 Bubble Envelope with item inside)
Sending Volume: 1000 a year (this will only last around 3.5 months if you're sending 10 a day)
No tracking, no signature
Price: £2.38 for each item

The normal price is £2.70

Have any of you tried this?

NoneOther 03-04-2013 06:21 PM

Yes but only if you pay for insurance

Depends on the value of the item, most tracking comes with the box standard insurance.

I agree with this statment.

And now you can not become top rated/ powerseller without offering free postage , so with the price increase on postage and the greater loss on ebay, makes you wonder if there is any point to it at all.

stevebills 04-19-2013 02:20 PM

collectplus is a joke they lost 2 parcels and damaged 2 more and wont pay me compo
WTF! never using them again going to try myhermes and RM

kirkie 05-14-2013 01:37 PM

I use collect + and have not had one single issue to date, all parcels delivered quickly and no damages, very cheap to use as well, hope I'm not eating my words soon

Agreed.

Just posted small parcels at £4.30 each for First Class Recorded Delivery. They're so small, they fit in the palm of your hand, but they have to be sent in bubble envelopes (delicate item) so they're classed a small parcel!

The postage costs nearly as much as what the item sells for, which is ridiculous.

You have to offer free shipping with eBay because if you charge anything, nobody buys! It's like every buyer now expects free shipping on everything.

I would love to send them out just Standard First Class but, of course, that doesn't provide you with tracking. And God forbid, you don't have tracking!

FFS! :rant::mad:

At the moment, not as far as I know. The prices seems pretty stable right now.
The costs are just too high when you sell small items and are forced to offer free shipping. You end up losing money in most cases.

Last increases were on 31st March 2014

Increases tend to come in the March or April each year. They do skip years now and then

http://www.aspkin.com/forums/uk-ebay...ery-times.html Have a look though that thread. Worth looking into PPI/Fanking if you are not already using it.

Can't you get it thin enough for a large letter? I bought a plastic size guide off ebay like they have in the post office. My post office insist it has to drop through freely, but I sned it as a large letter if it will go through with force. Never had a problem sent hundreds like that.

Also what is your item value? Sometimes its cheaper not to pay for recorded and take the loss of the odd one.

Large letter 1st class is 93p / small parcel 1st £3.20
Larger letter signed for 1st class is £2.03 / small parcel 1st £4.30 & covers upto £50 loss

that's an extra £1.10 per item. If your item costs you the maximum £50, you only have to sell 46 items without issue and it wasn't worth the 'insurance'. If you sell 500 items and 2 of them are lost, you have saved £550 in postage and lost £100 in stock, meaning you have saved £450 more than you would have if you have paid for recorded.

Unless its really high value items or low amounts of sales, its not usually worth paying for tracking. Non tracked items are still covered for £20 but good luck every trying to get RM to pay out.
