Default Managing Payments Requesting ID

I've been monitoring this over the past few weeks, at first it just looked like MP needed

Bank Statement matching name on account
Bank Account matching name on account

The eBay community forums has useful commenting from all the legit folk signing up. No one had mentioned ID docs etc.

But now this one came..

So ID will be needed it seems. I imagined it would, but this verifys it.

Theres no way of knowing of how this is going to work out, but its not looking good...

Combined with the banking system verifying name matches etc..

Those of us with long term Stealth accounts are going to be caught up in the first trial of these docs being submitted, while effectively changing the name on the account on the same day almost as not to flag up issues with PayPal while its still operational.

This is going to get really messy, I can feel it.

We can only assume based off of previous testimonies that they will eventually stop processing payments for you until you do sign up

So - if you do not receive statements - you know, 'go paperless', - how are you supposed to supply bank statements?

Bank Statements can be downloaded online.

By the way, none of mine are asking for ID. However I have hardly been using my accounts with only a few sales so this may be the reason. ID may be required as the EU receiving limit may have been exceeded? Or because you are a Limited Company?

I have been following the EBay Forums carefully. Apparently a CS Rep told someone to change their name for example from "John Smith" on their EBay account to "J Smith" if "J Smith" was the name on the Bank account.

Which got me thinking. If this is true, the system must not be making an online ID check, as of course "J Smith" is not the full name.

And yes this is going to be messy. It looks like all Business Accounts are being asked to enroll in July in the UK.

Although if only a few register by July, are they really going to restrict a vast amount of accounts from listing? EBay have not though this through IMO, and they should have done it in stages. With this and a virus doing the rounds there will be chaos.

All my accounts are over 60K per year, none are ltd companies, just business selling accounts.

I just spent an hour on Chat trying to speak to someone about MP and this email - completely useless, most of them didn't even know what it was, some gave away mental ideas (below) and it was impossible to get any actual information.

This extract was priceless;

"let me inform you we have invitations to sellers to opt for manage payments on site. We send them out so the seller can choose to use managed payments. Also managed payments will be like an option for sellers on the site. If you wish you can still use PayPal method. managed payments is not mandatory"

He went on to argue at that Managed Payments is NOT mandatory, and I will never be forced to use it.

I know eBay is ridiculously disorganised, but something as big as this should really have been briefed to the CS Reps. This was a 'Managed Payments' Specialist apparently too.

Anxiety level = 9999.99% at the moment.

I can't have ebay put an end to my income with this dumb f*ck!ng managed c*nt!ng payment system when everything is going so well.

I'm not going to voluntarily do anything until it is enforced on my account and/or my account is blocked from selling.

After which I will take a naive approach of simply acting dumb and hope that they allow me to sell ... on multiple accounts ALL WITH THE SAME F*CK!NG PHOTO ID arrrghhh ffs .. I just can't see this ending well.

Seriously wtf are we all going to do ?

I received the email today too but it didnt mention anything about ID, maybe its just for big sellers where they need photo id perhaps? Also, when i tried to sign up for it on a stealth account, it gives u a chance to change your name so surely u can change it then match the bank name with it. Its a hotshot but i see this as a somewhat workable method.

I think the sad reality is, each account needs its own 'person' with their own ID and bank account.

It's going back to the old days of asking friends and family to loan bank accounts (as we all did ebay accounts to 'get back on').

Trying the same name and Id on multiple accounts may work, but sadly, those of us long termers are going to be the test subjeccts for what does or dosent work.

The only option I can see is, when you get blocked for selling, take a holiday for a few months and hope you can learn from what happens to others.

One thing is for sure, don't be making or buying accounts in random names.

I am beginning to accept that all the work I have put in to build my businesses up will be coming to an end this year, along with the fruitful income.

Then you have to come up with a plan - do it now, not next week

Well I've given you my view of what needs to be done.

It's what I will be doing, and holding my breath, but preparing for the worst.

Debatable. Its worth thinking of a plan and have it ready to go, but I wouldnt be doing anything until they turn you off.

I've got 2 very old stealth accounts which are being moved onto MP in July, not sure what I am going to do yet.

I've accepted I may lose both accounts and have to start another one once we figure out how it can be done.

It's hurting inside knowing there will be severe interruption to business while we all figure it out.

Whilst 7.5 million in the UK are at home sitting on furlough, i'm so thankful my business on ebay is booming. And to think by July I may be fully cut off albeit 1 account which on it's own won't generate anything close to having multiple stealths. It's making me ill thinking about it.

I presume, its for accounts that have gone over the 2k approx EU limit in the past year. Again, like everything with MP, its a presumption, but they have to ask for some form of ID as thats the law, so I expected it either now, or after you had over 2k deposited, which for me, would be a couple of weeks on each account.
