Setting up new UK PayPal account after abandoning old one
Hi folks,
Will try my best to explain the situation in full. I've had quite a lengthy read through the forums but nothing seems to reflect the answers for my exact situation.
Basically I had been a long term, legitimate PayPal user for 8+ years. Always quite cautious and successfully managed to avoid scams....until last winter. I sold something via a listing website but the person asked if I could put up the item on eBay, pay with PayPal and pick the item in person. It seemed dodgy but I was desperate for the sale, and I tried to cover my ass and withdrew the funds to my bank immediately. Little did I know that wasn't going to make a difference.
Long story short after that: eBay/PayPal account holder said they got hacked, that they didn't buy anything and filled for a chargeback. My account was put into 4 digit minus figures to cover the chargeback. I appealed, filed a police report - didn't make a difference. Was hounded by PayPals partner debt collection agency Akinika for months on end. I refused to make up the balance and the only reason they stopped was because I: - Moved to a new city/new address
- Got a new bank account
- Got a new phone number
- Got a new email address
Things that have obviously remained the same: - Name
- Date of birth
Now my question is around opening a new PayPal account. Given that a lot of the details have changed including my IP, some of the big ones like my name and date of birth have obviously remained the same. I'm worried about them linking the new one with the old one through name, and thus finding out my new address and getting hounded for the old funds that haven't been made up on the old account.
Anyone know if they're able to do this - or how they're system works?
