Default Adding bank account

I have tried adding a saving account to my paypal acc, the two small deposits appeared along with some money i also withdrew, i confirmed the account this morning with the two small deposits but now i have had this email from paypal -
Dear J Allen,

The mandate from your bank account, ending in ****, was returned by your bank on 13
Mar. 2008 for the reason below:

This is an invalid bank account number.

Yours sincerely,
PayPal

Can anyone throw any light on this?? I have now had a reminder from paypal to enter the two small amounts! which already has been done!

I have had exactly the same happen on 2 accounts I set up last week, only difference is that they are still verified but have no bank account details.
I think it must be because the savings account does not accept DD.

So I am unable to withdraw any money at the moment till I can add another bank account.

Firstly a few facts..

1: Savings accounts DO and Can be set up with Direct Debits.. i personally pay BT.. British Gas.. Water.. Electric, set up within 1 of my savings accounts..

2: Where in Paypal does it demand that you set up a Direct Debit to withdraw funds.?> You just withdraw them to the savings acoount you entered for verification...And if You STILL insist that Paypal requires a Direct Debit, refer to Point 1

Re-enter your savings account details, and then withdraw funds to your account.. several weeks back, PP did some alterations, and some customers Bank details were removed as a result..

Then when you have hard fact proof etc.. post the result and not before, assumption and guess work just confuses the newer users, and clouds the subject..

I waited till I could verify account details before I started to sell, and got message within 2 days that mandate had been returned.

I have looked at the conditions on the accounts and they say that direct debits are only used between accounts with the bank and not external organisations.

When you enter the bank details on Paypal it automatically takes you to the direct debit page before you finish! So as has happened with the 2 accounts, if the savings account does not accept direct debit from Paypal, you can not use that bank account so therefore can not withdraw any money!

What bank do you use that allows direct debits?

Hi James, I would imagine that it will be in T&C's on website.

Have had a quick look at a few banks tonight and cant seem to find any savings accounts that accept external direct debits.

A quick search on some of my posts would have shown that i always advocate RBS, and have several SAVINGS accounts with them, and pay numerous bills Via direct Debit..

I have online savers at RBS. The two small amounts get deposited fine but the direct debit mandate is refused by the bank. Therefore I get an email a week later from PP saying that there was a problem with setting up bank funding.

The result is that you can verify your PP account and link it to eB to start selling, however if somebody pays you by PP you can't withdraw the money. In order to withdraw the money you need to have your DD mandate accepted to your bank account.

Scouse - if your RBS savers are accepting the direct debits are you using your own Sirname on the PP accounts?

I don't use my real surname on paypal accounts no, although i can't see that being a problem, as it's the account number and sort code that's the importent part.. as it's a while since i needed to open a new paypal account.. when you enter your RBS details, when it asks.. current or savings account, try putting the tick in the "current account " option..

let me know how you get on..
