Thanks a lot though | Not having a current valid passport is in itself not a great obstacle in opening a bank account.
There are other documents that most banks will accept in conjunction with the expired passport as proof of ID, GreenBean has already very kindly posted a link to the FSA website that explains a customers rights when opening a bank account.
Most obstacles are encountered when trying to open current accounts which require not only ID verification but also a full credit check that's why it has been posted on here many, many times that opening basic bank accounts is the best option as these only require ID check and not credit.
As long as the banks has sufficient documentary evidence of your ID and address then they will open a basic account for you without too much hassle.
Once you have that then you have the option to open savings accounts with the same bank without providing any further ID
Check these threads for some useful info http://www.aspkin.com/forums/subscri...ine-saver.html http://www.aspkin.com/forums/subscri...k-account.html
In addition to this there is also the option of the bank being able to verify your ID and address using the Electoral Register which if you are on it at the address you have applied for the account in then there willl be no need to provide any documents what so ever.
There is always a solution, sometimes it just takes a bit more effort to achieve the desired result. |
