Default no bank account?

My question today is what or are there any alternatives if you do not possess a bank account and can't open up a new one due to having no valid passport or any other valid ID to show the bank company when registering?

Any help is most appreciated!

Are you opening your bank account correctly?

Real ID is needed. Nothing stealth.

What stops you?

You claim to have had a suspended account. There should have been a bank account attached to your old paypal. Why did you not ask the bank for a new account.?

You are missing the point. Go to the bank where you possess an account and ask them if you can open another.

All bank accounts are opened in your real name (with real ID if asked for).

If you dont have an existing UK bank account and have no ID then you've got a problem.

Why cant you get an official UK ID like a passport or DL?

I am seriously trying to not drink but you are driving me to drinking.

Have you THOUGHT of calling NATWEST to see if they will let you open another account based on the fact you are already an existing customer???

Good chance they might help you.

Below might offer alternatives
Bank accounts: Know your rights

Finally: did you really BUY our book?

It is seriously past time for that subscription to be activated.

You are making yourself struggle.

That is so so so sad

GreenBean your one tough guy. Mirus you said you had an account before. But now your ID is expired correct. Without ID you cannot open another account. Since you did have an account then try calling the bank and hope they will open another account.

Meanwhile re-register or renew your ID so you can keep going.

Are you serious greenbeam?

You don't think I've already tried opening accounts with different natwest branches and over the phone before opening this thread?

That would just be beyond bizarre!

I'm just asking if there is aan alternative without opening a bank account

Not having a current valid passport is in itself not a great obstacle in opening a bank account.

There are other documents that most banks will accept in conjunction with the expired passport as proof of ID, GreenBean has already very kindly posted a link to the FSA website that explains a customers rights when opening a bank account.

Most obstacles are encountered when trying to open current accounts which require not only ID verification but also a full credit check that's why it has been posted on here many, many times that opening basic bank accounts is the best option as these only require ID check and not credit.

As long as the banks has sufficient documentary evidence of your ID and address then they will open a basic account for you without too much hassle.

Once you have that then you have the option to open savings accounts with the same bank without providing any further ID

Check these threads for some useful info

http://www.aspkin.com/forums/subscri...ine-saver.html

http://www.aspkin.com/forums/subscri...k-account.html

In addition to this there is also the option of the bank being able to verify your ID and address using the Electoral Register which if you are on it at the address you have applied for the account in then there willl be no need to provide any documents what so ever.

There is always a solution, sometimes it just takes a bit more effort to achieve the desired result.

If you have no id
Get a passport photo
The take that with a letter (bill to prove your address) to the post office and pay the £7 pounds for the ID thing they do , once you have that take that and you letter for address proof to the bank.

i also find cold calling with a couple of hundred to deposit in a small village bank can works with just a couple of letters

It is not easy if you have no valid I'd!

You can not open a bank account in this country at the branch without a proof of I'd and proof of address.

Anyway I've sorted it out now thanks for your help all.

You can open an account online, I have done 3 in the past couple of months and not been asked for any ID, and on one of those banks I have now 2 current accounts with £500 over drafts interest free. No ID was asked for any but I have lived at my current address longer than 6 years. I also now have a good credit rating as well so it can be done.

On to your ID, I can't see if you have stated if you work or not but if you do you should get a pay slip, that is one form of ID, if you do work do you get it paid directly into your bank account and if so there is your second part of ID a bank statement. Also do you live in a house by yourself and pay for any of the bills as these can also be used for ID.

If you don't work then I will guess you are getting job seekers allowance or some benefit and these official letter from DWP/ social department can also be used as ID, if you do how do you get these paid?

There is a lot of basic bank account on moneysavingexpert that you can get even if you have a poor credit rating, also what about your mobile phone bill, or your bill for your Internet provider.

I find it hard that you have absolutely no ID
