Activity: 0% Longevity: 90% | | Consequences of a PP account without a CC
I was wondering if someone can shed some light on this please...
Is a CC required on PP purely to set up a ebay sellers account or is it required as a funding source on PP itself?
Or is it required if you have payment agreements with 3rd parties and PP?
Is it possible to run a PP acct without a CC?
Thank you in advance for any help. :-)

A card needs to be registered to PP to be able to sell on EB. It acts as the funding source for EB fees.

What if i used my bank as a funding source? Would I still require a CC for EB?

You can use your bank account to pay ebay fees (though you'll struggle with stealth details). You can also use the funds in your PP account to pay fees. I've never attached a CC, but always paid my fees.

VCC are much easier to make than bank accounts though. As you point out you need funds in PP to pay fees, and if your money is held for 21 days and your fees due out before the 21 day period is due up then you do need a VCC to pay the fees.
Personally I do not attach a bank account until the account is a few months old, that was you can create a lot more stealth's without the need to be opening bank accounts all over the UK. In an ideal world though you would attach a VCC and a bank account so it is verified and confirmed before you start to use the account.

Thank you in advance for any help. :-) | to use ebay co uk, the idea is to have a fully verified and confirmed paypal account.
the confirmed part comes from the vcc.
the verified part comes from the bank account.
You have to make the choice of letting paypal see you have an account that is safe & secure.... To get VERIFIED status on paypal you add a bank, paypal will send the two small deposits (different amounts) Once these hit the bank you check your statement, and input these in paypal to become VERIFIED
Then to get CONFIRMED you need to add VCC and LINK AND CONFIRM card. This will send the 4-DIGIT EXPUSE code which will confirm your address etc.
VERIFIED & CONFIRMED is what you want.
You must aslo keep in mind that if you sell to the £1900 limit, ID needs to be supplied AND your paypal must be verified & confirmed for these limits to be lifted.
Take a moment to consider the wider angle of using paypal. | The Following User Says Thank You to GreenBean For This Useful Post: | |

you do not need a card, if you leave enough for fees and refunds in the balance...
but GBs post is really helpful to new people to understand why you may as well add a vcc,
they are inexpensive and easy...

Thank you all for your comments. I think we can all agree that although a CC may not be compulsory it is advisory given the nature of EB & PP. In this instance I would adhere to GB's concise advice. I just wanted to explore the inner workings of EB & PP as I did notice that a CC wasn't always required.
I would like to explore further into getting a PP acct confirmed and verified. In specific, with regards to the 2 small deposits and/or the 4 Digit Expuse Code. Should I open a new thread or can we continue on this one?

Thank you GB.
When I create an EB seller's account and proceed to PP I am required to add a CC. When this is done I then add my bank acct and PP send me small deposit with 4 digit expuse code.
Once this code is entered my bank account is verified. However, why did PP not deposit 2 small amounts in my account to verify the bank?
I assumed, as GB also stated above, that the 4 Digit code is sent to the CC and the 2 small deposits sent to the bank account.
I have also noticed that the 4 digit Expuse Code is sent instantly as opposed to the deposit which takes a few days.
Just trying to get my head around this as sometimes with certain banks I cannot see the 4 digit expuse code and I am required to wait longer to get it. I would prefer to use the 2 small deposits but there is no option to do so.
Any light shed on this matter will be appreciated.

I always use a current account. Either with RBS, Natwest or Santander.

Natwest had issues over the past few weeks. Was delays with the 2 deposits making the account. Santander had a few issues during this time too.
And to round this off, RBS was not as consistent either.
When you carried out the steps to get the two amounts, are you 100% sure you pressed send? Been known to happen that the final step was not completed. |

Yes, I defintely completed the steps and it immediately asked me for the 4 digit expuse assuming stating that it should show up on my account within 2 hours.
How does PP determine whether a code will be sent or 2 small deposits?

Just as a back comment, you did well to use both cc and bank - helps to increase security on account and limit-lifting. It is possible to just sell with verified pp (bank account only) - just as a statement.

In the UK, a bank account is pivotal to removing limits.
I sincerely think that is a little bit more important that making comments like a bank account helps increase security.
UK users need a bank account to complete most facets of paypal needs.
THAT is fact.

Do you have a UK account? Did not know you have a UK account.
If so, how were you able to get a UK bank account?
