Poor credit rating but need another bank acc

I have a really poor credit rating, I already have two accounts with RBS (which were attached to limited paypal accounts). so tried to get a second acc with Santander but they turned me down.

How do I get a new bank acc to use with stealth acc?

Re: Poor credit rating but need another bank acc

Look in basic bank accounts.

HSBC does a decent one that works well.

Do I need a basic acc that has a direct debit facility?

Only apply for accounts called BASIC accounts.
You get them from Hallifax RBS and Natwest to.

If you keep applying and keep getting refused it will worsen your credit score
and all bank will eventually turn you down.

So make sure you pick the right account.

These type of accounts are best avoided and should only be used as a last resort.

A monthly admin fee of £12.50 plus ATM withdrawal charges - no thanks.

Something like CashPlus does the same job but with much lower charges.

As mentioned above basic accounts are fairly easy to get even with a poor credit rating.

Interesting that in the UK a bank account is related to your credit score.

In the UK everything is related to your credit score, you can't go for a job interview without them asking to do a credit check.

I was talking to the tax office the other day and they even asked if they could use it for ID purposes???? I told them to get stuffed so they had to do it the old fashioned way of asking me questions.

Our country has gone nuts on those damned agencies.

I do not understand the relationship to a checking account(money you have and ability to cash checks) to a credit score or line of credit.

This is RIP OFF BRITAIN!

Its also a good idea to check your credit report at all three bureaux about once a year. You can do it for a statutory fee of 2 GBP. You can also access the one ar Credit Call free via Noddle. I just sent off for mine from Experian and Equifax.

I wish you wouldn't give out false information like that! I will bet you a million quid that you can go for an interview with, say, Vodafone. Successfully get the job. Without the need to do a credit check.

Once in a job, there are instances where you will need to undergo security checks (e.g. SC clearance, which might include a credit check) in order to be part of a project (usually, a government related project).

My son has been for a dozen interviews recently and every one but for one in a corner store has involved a credit check and none of them were government jobs. Do not know when you last looked for a job but the world is changing and they are using the credit check as some form of reliability rating.

So not sure where the false information is.

And back to topic the opp should try barclays, as they are now the only bank that will offer accounts even to people with CCJ's So a bad credit rating should be nothing to them.

I think Co-Op used to but they dropped out of the scheme.

I am always happy to hear of opportunities from recruiters and companies. In 2014 alone, I had interviews with Vodafone, ALU, BT and others, resulting in three offers. Not once was I asked for a credit check. In fact, when it comes to jobs, I have NEVER been asked for a credit check. I am 100% sure that my colleagues and ex-colleagues would say the same thing.

Admittedly, some roles will require a full check, e.g. a bank job, an accountancy role, etc.

This is utter nonsense!

My son went for BT a few month ago and they ran the credit check once he reached the second stage.
Even going for customer service roles in call centres and he is finding the same question is asked. But like you say maybe he is going for higher grade jobs than yourself so maybe I should rephrase my original statement to if you are after any job worth having then they will ask you for a credit check if it is relevant to the job or not.

Re: Poor credit rating but need another bank acc

I have been for many academic jobs and no one ever asked me for permission to run a credit check. These are responsible jobs where I was often in charge of a large research budget and involved a lot of discretion/trust as to how money was spent. However this was pre 2004 when I retired so this may have changed,

Glad you took the dig with a pinch of salt
but I am serious when I say most of the companies he has been applying to work for seem to be using the credit check as some form of reliability study.

Although another rather odd employer had another reason for it. Claiming that a persons credit history did not cross borders so it gave the companies using it a legal way to say no to people they may have to justify saying no to.

Re: Poor credit rating but need another bank acc

Tbh, this is the first time I'm hearing of full credit checks being done for jobs. I left uni years ago and have worked across the TMT ecosystem since then. Have never been asked for a credit check for job purposes. For some consulting engagements that are sensitive in nature, yes, there is that SC clearance thing. But not for a job.

Because you mentioned that it's your son, I thought it might be a new thing that's done with young(er) people. Had Skype on, so I asked a few people. They have never been asked for a credit check as well.

This leads me to believe that the people your son interviewed with used this as an excuse.
