Paypal cash payments, and later isssues - advice appreciated

Morning People,

Quick question - I've been a stealth user for ages - great work everyone.

If i somebody send me cash using paypal, can they later claim that the product wasn't delivered or item not as described. Thsi is not an invoice, not a purchase but just cash to a friend. If my items weren't sent by courier can that friend then receive my items and then claim nothing was received/not as described thus taking my item and my money?

If money was sent as to a friend than a person making the payment isnt cover by paypal buyer protection. They can still claim chargeback through the bank if the payment was funded from debit card rather than paypal funds

Ah good point - so if i want to be secure in receiving cash the only option is a service like western union is that correct? Or BACS bank payment - problem is that it's international and so may well take 2 working days which defeats the point as they'll be there by then.

Well you can never be sure. Is it something expensive?
I had few customers trying to scam me (chargeback) before however i only sell through ebay and accept paypal payment only. This combined together gives you a very strong protection and i always get a money back. In your case, I'm not 100% sure but i think there is a risk loosing money. Western union is a good idea as you get cash to hand.

A good approach is to avoid using PP whenever possible. You will have some trouble convincing ppl to send with Western Union however...

This is my issue yes - WU has a bad rep. Yes it's a removal i'm doing for somebody. Problem is they're based in spain. I don't want to accept cash in hand on the day. Thing is if i drop their things off and then the bank payment doesn't go through, or they reclaim the pp money, or do a chargeback i'm screwed. So i'm suggesting 50% in uk and 50% on delivery WU. They are in france and i'm in the UK - so don't want to outlay all that cash without any secure money.
