That is correct, it is false.

So people are not confused, RDP is just the method of which you connect to a remote computer, hence the name REMOTE DESKTOP PROTOCOL.

The remote computer itself will have it's OWN connection, unless your remote computer is right beside you and connected to your router it will not have the same IP as you.

If your RDP into your google cloud server, aws server, digital ocean or whoever else, you don't have your IP address. You have the servers address. Most servers allow you to choose location of your IP anyways.

it is not the right place for false information
An RDP will put you in another location, Being in another location will change your IP.

OK, I'm in London UK with an IP address coming from my local provider, I then log into my RDP that comes from a Remote Desktop in New York and I'll still have a UK IP ?

Well I guess I'd better inform the good people at whatismyipaddress.com because I'm getting an IP from somewhere near Bronx Zoo

I think you guys are just arguing semantics at this point.

While you don't log INTO your RDP, you log into your VPS/Cloud Server/etc VIA RDP. People use the term RDP incorrectly so now a days RDP is just interchangeable/synonymous with being a VPS.

So when saying:

"I logged into my RDP"

People really mean:

"I RDP'd into my VPS"

But some folks get irritated I guess. We know what you mean, it isn't a big deal IMO since everyone does it.

leaving a phone on wont keep the same ip, it might do for a day or two
but then it will change automatically, or if the signal gets cut off it will change

True or False? The experts wanna comment before I go buy 20 phones.

And by the way, when we talk of phones, do we mean smartphones or just like my £5 phone with only call and calculator function?

A signal cut off would result in a new IP, what are the chances of that happening on a stationery phone? I would say slim, but there's a chance.

£5 phone, if it cant support tethering, then no.

Somewhat confusingly, I think what he's saying is that wherever you RDP, it has its own unique IP, this is technically true.

I say technically because you can RDP into another computer in your home and that computer will have it's own local IP, but unless its behind a VPN, it will have the same 'internet' IP as all the other computers in your house to the outside world.

If you RDP into a remote computer somewhere in the world, then the internet IP of that computer is whatever the provider is, though it will still have a local IP unrelated to your local network.

The confusion was that I was talking about Team viewer as RDP, and all I said in this topic is true with teamviewer
