New Accounts on amazon

I have just notice there are no new seller listing on amazon in the DVD section listing Disney movies. Do amazon have a new policy in place that screen new sellers before they are able to list in this catagory???

Sell4more2 02-20-2011 07:40 PM

Tested this out- Soon as I made a account listed a movie- suspended due to copyright.

pcware 02-20-2011 07:56 PM

how long between the time you listed and you got the boot??

Sell4more2 02-20-2011 08:04 PM

about 30min to 1hr.

Hey it seems as if Amazon is cracking down on this catagory. I opened up a new account in another category for now o see if things cool down.

jeffweico 02-20-2011 09:19 PM

The only suirprising thing here is that it took Amazon so long.

Disney DVD's (the animated classics, anyway) are the most heavily counterfeited DVD's on the planet.

The general rule is, if the DVD's you want to sell are listed for sale on DHgate, you will have a problem selling them on Amazon - ESPECIALLY on a new account.

Another worthy point is to look in your category is there are ANY "Newly launched" sellers.

DogFacedBoy 02-21-2011 11:19 AM

I sell DVDs sometimes and still see a lot of "just launched" sellers selling the same items as me, but I have never sold any Disney items.
Is this immediate shutdown for all new accounts selling DVDs or specifically Disney?

rsot 02-21-2011 11:40 AM

Really depends on WHAT you are selling. Some DVD categories are just too hot for newly launched sellers and you will see when you check the existing sellers. Not specific to Disney but I can imagine based on jeffweico's knowledgeable statements that that category is a no-no without good feedback.

DogFacedBoy 02-21-2011 11:45 AM

Some of the DVDs that I have are top 500 sellers on Amazon. Is that what you refer to or is it just more of a "higher risk" type category?

rsot 02-21-2011 12:27 PM

I have noticed that some of the top 500 sellers can be sold ok as new account. However, I think Amazon tracks complaints vs. counterfeits so too many complaints on a particular item will flag that listing. That makes the difference.

If you were trying to list a Disney dvd as brand new on a new seller's account then your odds of getting the account suspended were pretty good.

DogFacedBoy 02-21-2011 12:34 PM

Other than the ocassional slow arrival or defective I haven't had a complaint.
Plus, I've been on Amazon for 5 years now

Same account DFB? That's impressive if so...

Not Disney...have never sold any.

As with ebay there are items that you know are 100% legit that will still cause problems.
For instance, a few years back I saw some True Religion hats at TJ Maxx for $7 on clearance...very little doubt that they were real, but still I had a heck of a time even trying to list them on ebay.
Using the words True Religion in the title would halt the listing process. I had to list them like True TR Religion. I think because the words weren't together that the bots didn't pick up on it, but the search function did. I also had to list one as TR and then have the words True Religion in the description which obviously would show in the results if that box was checked while searching.

Since I bought them at a national retail outlet I have very little doubt that they were authentic, but still had a difficult time trying to even get them listed.
Also, my feedback at the time was 200+ at 100%, so the account was far from new.

I view Disney in the same category as the P90X, Zumba Fitness, etc.

It is well-known that Disney does NOT often dioscount their products, ESPECIALLY the classic animation, because they don't have to. There will always be plenty of parents and grandparents that will buy Cinderella or Snow White for the kids and price is not that much of an issue for them.

So when Amazon sees a new seller trying to sell these anywhere near the wholesale cost (or below) they KNOW what is going on.

Not ALL DVD's are considered high-rsik. Only the highly counterfeited ones. Box sets, brand new releases and popular oldies like the Dinsey's are high-risk.

If you list a DVD of "Hello Dolly" that was released in 2003 for sale, I very much doubt they would even look at that listing, since it is not a known problem.

But I'm also sure that Amazon gets a TON of complaints about counterfeit Disney DVD's. When they look at this, probably most of them are coming from new sellers. They proably have an auto-cancel in place for any new seller listing certain titles - but that is just my theory, I cannot say I know that for a fact.

DogFacedBoy 02-21-2011 01:38 PM

I agree 100%...very well put.
I have listed "borderline" items and find it easier on my nerves to list them as "used-like new" and make a little less than to cause problems for yourself
