The MAC address is used only on a local network (mainly on the data link layer of the OSI model). As packets leave your local network, the mac address is replaced by the mac address of the router. This happens at every router along the route between you and any other site.
The only way a MAC address is seen by external sites is if you have a program running to broadcast it (OR if they are directly tied into your local network).
But I understand alot of people somehow believe they do. I won't want to dissuade someone that wants to take extra precautions. Quote:
