Amazon "New" Two-Step-Verification

It looks like Amazon has rolled out with yet another system update.
Now it seems most accounts are requesting a two-step verification, otherwise your account will be automatically suspended within a couple months of registration.
I have done a couple of them and they are no big deal.

You have 2 options to verify and receive code:
1. Text Message (SMS) - Works best for multiple accounts
2. Authenticator APP

Just make sure to use a phone # that has never been used on Amazon previously and that you have access to.

Remember to keep the phone number live and active, so you don't lose it!
Otherwise you may run into a nightmare if your account is locked and you lose the verification phone #

Any country phone # provider seems to work fine (I tested 3 international #s on the accounts to accommodate international sellers).

After you complete the two-step verification process, you'll be given the option to verify your device. Once your device is verified, you have the option to "remember" it and avoid having to do the two-step verification every time you login with that device.

Keep in mind, any new device added to log into your Amazon account will most likely trigger a code to verify.
That means if you are planning on getting a new laptop, make sure you have access to the verification number you provided them with.

Solutions:
1. Use any phone # you have, any country, as long as it has never been used before on Amazon.
2. Google voice seems to be working (Keep in mind if they are inactive for 9 months you can lose your google voice number).
This is mostly available to USA, UK might have a harder time getting a Google voice # but still possible.
3. Prepaid phones / SIM cards picked up at local stores.

Secure your Amazon account and don't get locked out!

Cheers :thumb:

Re: Amazon "New" Two-Step-Verification

I use two step verification with practically everything (including ebay + paypal which unfortunately has the feature hidden away).

With websites constantly getting hacked, and passwords constantly being hijacked - I think its the best way forward.

P.S. Amazon allows you to use an app such as Google Authenticator (which I use)... I would suggest everyone uses one too so if ever your phone number "expires", you wont be locked out of your accounts. (eBay/PayPal dont support authenticator apps).

Can we use google authenticator app for multiple accounts? What's the process for that?

I presume you can. I doubt it would link your accounts.

When your enabling the 2 factor authentication, basically use the same Google Authenticator App on your phone. The app generates a 6 digit code which you enter (in addition to your email/password).

You can use the Google auth app to secure other things too, GMAIL etc. so its nothing new.

Its being requested on newly registered US / UK accounts.

It appears that accounts created within the last couple weeks are also receiving them

My guess is it will be a requirement for all Amazon accounts soon.

If you have the message requiring you to fill out the two-step verification, might as well do it as early as possible and make sure to do it correctly.

Hey buddy!

Not everyone is seeing it yet. Just newly created accounts at the moment should see it in the top right corner.

If you click help in the top right and type two step verification, it should open up a page with more information

Yeah I received the request on the majority of my accounts as well

I believe at the moment the only 2 options are SMS text and Authenticator APP

Similar question to Duanbo. My accounts phone # has expired and can no longer be retrieved. Do i need to purchase a new prepaid plan with a new phone # to complete this 2 step verification or can i use the google app method to complete the verification without a phone.

Once you get the notification to setup two-step verification, you'll be asked to provide a number for SMS text, or to connect an Authenticator App. The original number on the account is not necessary. Just be prepared to either get an active number (and keep it active), or familiarize yourself with one of several Authenticator Apps. I personally use multiple phone #s for all my accounts.

I got this from Amazon.Co.UK:

About Two-Step Verification

Amazon's Two-Step Verification adds an additional layer of security to your account. Instead of simply entering your password, Two-Step Verification requires you to enter a unique security code in addition to your password during sign in.

You'll enter your sign in information like you normally would, but then you'll be prompted to enter a security code. You can receive this security code in a variety of ways depending on the option you select during sign up, including text message, voice call, or authenticator app.

To simplify sign-in on computers and devices that you routinely use, you can tell us not to ask for a security code so that you won't need to enter a code each time you sign in. Afterward, that computer or device will only ask for your password when you sign in.

If you need help from Customer Service after enabling Two-Step Verification, you'll need provide a security code similar to when trying to sign in to your account.

Good find! Looks like UK Amazon has 1 extra option:

UK Amazon has SMS (text message), Voice call, or Authenticator APP

USA Amazon has SMS (text message) or Authenticator APP
