Federal Registration Number Stealth Account
 

To collect GST/HST (Canadian sales tax for you Muricans') you must include a Federal Registration Number (GST/HST Number, or commonly known as a "Business Number") in your AMZ account tax settings. My current Federal Registration Number is linked to me and my suspended account so I cannot reuse it.

Monday I will be contacting the Canada Revenue Agency to inquire my options on acquiring a new number. My outlook is gloomy. I believe it will require GST/HST business account closure and reapplication which can take who knows how long, burdensome tax filing as well as zealous questioning from the CRA on my motives.

I understand I can register a corporation, but I'd like to avoid this unless I have no choice. It is different compared to the states and will complicate my tax situation and be very costly for filing and registration.

For all sales over $30,000 CAD you are required to collect GST/HST in Canada.

1) How do you overcome the Federal Registration Number obligation for your Stealth Account to collect sales taxes?

2) What suggestions do you have from reading my dilema?

3) How do you envision my success in acquiring a new Federal Registration Number from the CRA?

Your business number is linked directly to your SIN land you can only change your business number if you:

1) File for bankruptcy
2) Change your legal entity to a corporation or partnership

How do the stealth pros here with multiple accounts handle taxes if Amazon requests your unique tax number?
