I've never heard of an email like that. If you're sure it's from Amazon and you have a legit phone number on file with them I would use their phone interface, have them call and ask a CS rep. to put the item in the right category.
Otherwise, I would do what they ask and periodically check to see if the item's been moved and add it on.
Sometimes sellers miscategorize items on purpose because the item that they want to sell is in a restricted category. You can't do much about that unless you can get approval to sell in those categories.
