(tip) how to backup your two-step device/authenticator
Several people have asked me about ways they can save their two-step devices to avoid being locked out. Most are familiar with the first two points below but not many are aware of the 3rd handy trick.
1. If you use Authy app, which I recommend, you can get a backup code that will restore your app on your phone in case you lose your phone or access to your phone.
2. If you use google authenticator app, you will be able to save a backup code as well which will restore access to your authenticator in case you lose your phone.
3. In additional to the above 2 ways of backing up your code, what you can also do and I recommend doing (just in case) is take a screenshot of the QR code generated when you initially setup two-step. Save that QR code as a screenshot, and save it as a JPG on your computer. If you ever lose your two step device, you can always re-scan the QR code with a new device and it will generate a new two-step code that will give you access. |
