Has Anyone had HMRC Documents verified by Amazon lately?

I provided A UTR letter for one of my stealth accounts and it then failed the reverification. Done this lots of times over the years on various accounts. Normally they pass the verification straight away. This one took over week and then it failed verification and they suspended me.

I believe that .gov.uk now provides a webpage to check if UTR's are valid and active.

Amazon are also very very good as spotting doctored papers. Was it altered in, say, photoshop.

Can't find anything related to what you are referring to on the .gov website. Do you have the link?

It is my understanding that they can only check the 10 digit UTR has the correct check digit based on HMRC's algorithm.

I'm not sure if Amazon does, or if they did ever check if the UTR Number is correct. Historically I have uploaded UTR Letters where I know the number doesn't fit the algorithm and they have verified them. Maybe it's different now. Don't know.

amazon may just suspend people this way , they just reject docs without telling you that the decision to suspend has already been made , for example because they may not like the selling activity on the account or it may have had too many authenticity complaints in the past

Seems like the UK provides a way to look up any company. So making up information probably isn't a great idea.

Companies house information has nothing to do with UTR numbers. It holds company and director information.

UTR stands for Unique Taxpayer Reference and is assigned to an individual by HMRC.

The UTR is similar to the USA EIN number, plus most Secretary of State offices of the state in which a LLC or corporation is registered will similar info to that of the UK’s companies house.

Ah, gotcha.

The govt most likely provides a way to verify UTR numbers then, much like how the US IRS provides a TIN matching service. If your company name and EIN do not match in the US it will give you an error in the tax interview.

Let's not just guess if we are not sure plesse guys it just confuses people

EIN and UTR - they both have to do with tax but there are a lot of differences

I've just received an email for an older account asking to submit new HMRC document within 60 days.


Why is this happening?
The HMRC document you provided was not indate.

What type of document do I need to provide?
Business verification documents:
-- One of the following documents issued by HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) within the last year:
- Class 2 National Insurance Contributions (NICs) Bill
- Online VAT Certificate
- Self-Assessment notice to complete a tax return
- Letter confirming your Unique Taxpayer Reference (UTR) number
- Self Assessment Statement
- Short Tax Return.

As long as utr has check digit it pass amazon verification
