Is this competitor act or scam

Sold a used phone and got this message today

Quote:

You Sent Me a Traveling Charger & On Top Of That , The Charger DID NOT WORK No Charger Ive Tried Using Charged The Phone I Went To a local Sprint Store And Their Charger Couldn't Even Figure Out , So Simple Matter Fact Is That The Phone Is Damaged Some How and I Would Like My Money Back , Because There Is No Way The Phone Is Or Was In Perfect Condition With You , But Not with Me , Yes I Would Like My $154 Back If There Is No Replacement.
Do you think it is competitor or a scam?

I read the message couple time and there is something not right about this message. I asked for detail of the problem and this is the buyer reply.

There is no regular person type like this.

What do you think?

Thank you

Could be a scammer. Probably not competitor, imo. Sounds like a normal idiot customer though.

Offer a return label and tell them you will issue full return upon return.

Re: Is this competitor act or scam

Was the phone tested before sending out, and, was the package insured by the shipping company?

TonyAlmeida 10-14-2013 08:01 PM

Re: Is this competitor act or scam

Yes, it was my personal phone before upgrade. The phone was fully charged before shipped out also.

The problem is the buyer not try to answer my question about the problem. I ask for the picture of the actual item and charger also confirm the MEID/ESN number but buyer don't answer those question

To clam the buyer even more offer to refund his shipping charges for the inconvenience right now. Do not delay in sending that prepaid return label out.

Looks like one of the many retards that buy on amazon. Send him a return label/address and see what comes back. I would also drop an e mail to seller support. Bring it there attention first.

Re: Is this competitor act or scam

I will wait a bit till the buyer confirm the ESN number of the phone and then email seller support. Thank you

Re: Is this competitor act or scam

What you should do depends on your defect rate. If you have a bunch of small items you sell all the time to keep defect very low then be very strict with them. If you risk getting anywhere near 1 percent then bend over and take it up the yarse.

Seller support already closed for the day. Will call tomorrow morning.

Re: Is this competitor act or scam

Could be a case of return abuse.

User does the following
1. drop his phone in toilet
2. buy a similar one online from you
3. claim it does not work
4. send back the toileted one to you for refund

You should tell him that you are more than happy to return the phone. Remind him to make sure to send the CORRECT Phone. Tell him that you have recorded the serial number/ESN of the phone and if you receive the wrong one, you will not be able to refund him. Maybe by just saying that he will know he cannot take advantage of you.

If he gutted your phone for parts and replaced it with bad parts, you may be out of luck.

Re: Is this competitor act or scam

Accept the return
and be sure to not only confirm the the phones serial
but to RECORD the opening from the moment you get it from the postal worker to ensure you do not get a rock.

Re: Is this competitor act or scam

Not to side with the buyer, but did you send him an aftermarket travel charger?

Aftermarket ones go bad all of the time and can actually damage phones. People pull this crap with me on CL all of the time, so I am used to it. The buyer just may be a complete idiot who doesn't know how to clearly explain the situation.

Re: Is this competitor act or scam

Yes, after market charger but was tested and charged the phone before shipped it with that same charger.

Could be true, but never had a cheap o 2$ ebay charger kill a phone, die after a year, yes, but never get a phone killed.

Re: Is this competitor act or scam

Ignoring your questions is a definite sign of a sca.mmer in my opinion, but I just wanted to understand the situation better since those responses are barely English.

And I forgot in your first post that the customer said not even the store had a charger that worked. That's a flat out lie unless that phone is 10+ years old.

I have repeat asking buyer to confirm the ESN/MEID four time and a bunch of other questions but buyer didn't answer any of the questions I asked and just B.S around with something else.

Obvious signs of a scammer IMHO. Offer to talk to him on the phone and assist him in reading you the ESN/MEID. People have a hard time lying on the phone.
If he gives you a made up ESN, you can check online and verify it is the original phone (it is free if I recall correctly).

Good advice on 'the rock'. I was scammed like that a few years ago. Expected 500 cell phone charger, received 5 in a giant box

Sense this may be an idiot (kid).

Be firm with dealing with them. Dont 'offer' in terms of being nice.

State simply what is going to happen:

You are supplying a return shipping label for the item's return.

A refund of shipping will happen when the item is returned.

Ensure amazon are also advised. Get this on your file before the buyer does more harm.

Grrr to stoopid buyers

Get that info out with your talks with Amazon - hopefully some support from them.

Any buyer who is LEGIT, can easily confirm this info.

Re: Is this competitor act or scam

My feeling is this is not a scammer - just a guy running a couple of quarts low. I am not quite sure a scammer would be willing to take an exchange like this idiot said he would - though this would give him 2 good phones for the price of one.

TonyAlmeida 10-16-2013 04:40 AM

Re: Is this competitor act or scam

Sent 3 more email yesterday asking for the ESN/MEID still don't have the answer. I also mention that I keep track of all of the phone record before it was shipped (serial number, MEID, ESN.....) in case something happen I can report it and I don't have any problem to accept a return for full refund include the prepaid shipping label to return the phone.

In order for me to process a return I need that number to start with.

Here is the latest buyer email few hours ago

Quote:

Okay , I Am Willing Too Keep The Phone If All I need Is a New Charger , So Tell You What Let Me Buy a Charger Sometime Past This Weekend & See If That's The Problem , If Not I Would Very Much Like a Refund , Thanks

RESPONSE:

Dear Buyer,

You appear to be deliberately ignoring my attempts to assist.
I may need to arrange to close this case in my favor because of your lack of cooperation.

Kindly supply me with the needed numbers of the phone by close of business 10/21/2013. I will then begin refund proceedings........................

Or phone the dude and tell him the same

I don't buy the 'stupid buyer'

You don't go on amazon to buy a used cell phone if you are a honest stupid buyer who can't answer a simple question.

Buyer is trying to weasel his way out of something (broke the phone on arrival, microwaved it, washing machine, etc)

I also don't get why he capitalizes every word.

IMHO

More than 10 years ago, I got scammed by one guy for almost 3K (The time of H card for DSS if anyone here know that)

He used same style like this, cap every 1st letter of the word.

It is COD order and paid by money order. I contact his local DA and police to get his a$$. I don't remember what happen to him but I got my bank return the money and cancel the money order.

When I saw the email of this buyer it remind me the pass time.

Anyway, after more than 10 email asked for the ESN, she finally reply with the ESN number. And yes, it is the right number that I have. I will wait couple days since she is using the phone now (I noticed when I check the ESN).

If she can't charge the phone how she can use the phone for couple days now

Is there a way to transfer an esn to another phone? I think I remember doing that on old samsung phone using bitpim.

Got bunch of email from this SOB last night.

She called me by all kind of bad word and demand money back by the morning or she call police :)

I'm just try to be polite and professional answer all the email with all nice work I never use before :)

Finally I got her to make a return request and I just authorized it :)

Let see when she return the phone?

How long the return request to be expire if buyer not return it?

Thank you

Sometimes buyers take an easy way out when they want to return something. I have got this in the past. And after claiming them down and offering them a no hassle return the truth comes out.

But still, how can you confirm she is using the phone? Just because you can not register that esn, does not mean she is using it. Unless you can enter a esn and see if there is activity on it.....

I dont think it expires automatically but usually there is a 30 day allowance from when they receive the item. The seller has the ability to close the request manually and give a reason - for instance over 30 day limit and item not returned.

Thats my point though. Maybe the scumbag has transferred your good esn to another phone that they got real cheap cause it had bad esn. That why you see the esn active. Then break your phone and return it so you cannot activate it.
