Yeah, I think they have to abide by regulations or the hammer will come down on them. They are only loosely regulated because they want to watch it grow. Once it gets regulated, and it will get regulated, it will definitely stunt the growth.

Buy at 9k, sell at 10k. Buy at 9.5k and sell at 10.5k. Repeat the process adjusting for slighter gains and pullbacks. As long as it doesn't jump 2k in a day, you won't FOMO. If you are gonna employ this strategy, you have to actual watch the market multiple times a day to as you may want to decrease your spread if it's not dipping enough.

US Regulators approved the CME futures to go ahead (which should start 18th December)

If your smart, you'd know this has just paved the way for NASDAQ to join in - and they've already planned to roll this out next year. So with no regulations stopping them, I see rise in value. :coffee:

Is the to majority think a good way to start is use coinbase. Buy like 5k and just sit back for a while?

Ill have to know when is best time to buy? Or does it allow me to set-up purchase orders on certain number? Example its at 10k and put in order to buy when it hits 9.5k? Is this possible with coinbase and as a new user?

Where you gonna cash out from? Coinbase was forced to send users' buying information for 2013-15. Doesn't affect a lot of us, but it will when it is implemented for this year, next year, etc.

When it comes to Bitcoin, pay your taxes on profits gained. When you join these exchanges you give your SSN or TIN and that will be passed on to the IRS with your activities. Pay your taxes and you won't have any issues.

I thought you only pay taxes when you withdraw. Why withdraw? I plan to hold for 10-50 years.

You never withdraw. You just sell for tetherd and hope tether doesn't crash.

I think if you buy BTC from Exchanges and you sold at a profit in the Exchanges, definitely they can track your gains and you must report for taxes. But if you convert it to another coin outside of the Exchanges, they will never see the profit after that.

It's very complicated with trading on exchanges... the ones I'm part of don't keep track of things like profit/losses so it's all on you.. unless I'm missing out on some good exchanges. Come tax time it's going to be a guessing game on profits..

localbitcoin is what i have always used for years. coinbase a better place to buy ? i have always kept them in the wallet at localbits site ..

With big investments into bitcoin now, I think value rise in $1k increments will become the norm... back few months, reaching $6k, $7k, $8k was a challenge.

Stick to LBC if you aren't on Coinbase or another exchange already.

Regulations are coming quickly. Buying from LBC is the least traceable method. Buying on exchanges has become less favorable now that you have to totally dox yourself to buy in.

I was waiting for a retracement at 10k, then 12k now its 14k and I dont know wether I should buy more or not!

Nobody knows.. just buy and hold. I just bought some more today even with today's high.

I'm going to stick it in cold storage and forget about it. It's nothing to me now.

Yup same here. I'm going to be buying a lot more later this month. Put it away, forget about it for 1 to 3 years.

For better or for worst, I know for a fact 2018 would be a big year for Bitcoin.

Every real person I talk to about bitcoin young adult to elderly usually has a response that ranges from, "X-thousand for a bitcoin? That's way too expensive," to "I hope it works out for you," or "Bitcoin is a bubble."

It's hard for people to grasp the future. My elderly roommate has thrown $5 per week at lottery tickets for the last 20 years. I have an old friend that got put into a nursing home a couple years ago that I hope invested his $2 million net worth into bitcoin this year and sold at least his original investment if it ever crashes. I just don't talk to him much and don't like to give people investment advice unless they're paying me.

While yes I have made good money off bitcoin in the last year (everyone has with bitcoin), I have made mistakes.

My secret power is I have the money to fix those mistakes and take advantage of the situation while others may not.

I don't invest more than 10% of my net worth into bitcoin.

I invest what I'm willing to lose.

I have no need for the extra money I put into Bitcoin, it's less about investing and more about a game for me. You win when you have the most bitcoin.

This thread will be about my journey to holding for 2018 and what that will bring. It's an experiment and part of the game for me. :)

Good strategy. I also have a similar strategy, such that if I lose the money, it wont be my demise. That should be the way to invest.

The greatest part of Bitcoin for me is the fact that this is only the start of something big, we are the "early adopters", and when something becomes successful, its the early adopters that are most rewarded!

If you're new, I always recommend Coinbase. They hold the most amount of Bitcoins, and they are one of the biggest exchanges right now. They're also located in the US, so under some regulation (albeit not so stringent).

They are easy to use, and you're best place to start.

Does anyone know how I could buy instantly on GDAX like on coinbase? From what I understand, coinbase owns GDAX. I already had a coinbase account and I just linked up to my GDAX account. When I try to buy, it only shows the option to deposit funds from my bank account but it says it will take 3-5 business days to arrive. So how can I buy right now at the current price without having to wait?

only way is through credit card. There are other exchanges that let you buy with CC. You have to google research. Poloniex? Bitrex? I'm not sure.

What is crazy is how much more the Chinese/Koreans are paying for Bitcoin in the last 4-6 months.

They are regularly paying a 10-15% premium on the coins

I would imagine its the Chinese opening banks in Korea to transfer funds with all the issues with Bitcoin in China? :spy:

Don't sell. You will see BTC at 100k in your lifetime. There is 21 million coins in the world and each day someone loses a little bit of btc each day.
