I have previously used the Q&A setup such that common questions get answered, and weeds out those buyers who don't care to read, and just ask repetitive questions. Whilst I don't run this on all my eBay accounts, I do on those that sell goods at cheap prices, so such buyers don't get to monopolise my time.
Note - once the buyer actually buys the item, then they can send you questions.
