Anyone know if you revise an item does it cause the listing to disappear for a short period? | For me, it's a resounding yes. Every time I make changes, my listings take a dive from their position downward, then slowly it starts crawling up the search results again until it gets past whomever I'm trying to hop over; if the conditions are right.
I keep track using another browser where I'm not logged in.
Some minor changes don't seem to affect my listings but I have noticed that titles, photos and description (in that order) are the biggest culprits for me.
The only time I don't get that drop is if I'm far ahead. By far ahead, I mean when I'm number one and my competition is doing very poorly. Quote:

It is possible to beat them to number 1. It is also possible to be number 4 and 'cart away' a significant chunk of the total sales on that item.
The reason why you keep tinkering with it is that you do not know exactly why you do not have more sales. I would guess that you do not know because you haven't had an in-depth look at your competition and your potential buyers
You can thoroughly 'dissect' all four listings to find major changes that you can implement to bring you good fortune. This is the hard way.
Of course, you can go the quick, easy route and resort to practices that might be considered borderline grey-hat. eBay does not seem to care as long as you are not breaching policy. I've seen aged listings like these that are still thriving.
