Winning a return item case

So I through diligence and common sense won a return item case in which a buyer was trying to defraud me by claiming I sent him a different unit.
I called ebay 3 times, and on the last day(today) I got a guy that indicated 'let's give the buyer 5 more days to see' to which I retorted 'ebay gives 6 days for a resolution to happen and we are already on the 6th day,the buyer has had sufficient time to support his case, then he replies 'your right'--(ebay definitely wants to give courtesy to buyers based on this scenario, what if the shoe was on the other foot, would I have gotten 5 days extra? Highly doubt it). So he places me on hold comes back to tell me the case is won in my favor.
Though I'm happy at the outcome, could the buyer still open a case through PayPal, which I believe is still possible. If so, can I use ebays deciding in my favor as backup if a case is opened?
Thanks in advance team for ur support

Best to have them return the goods, refund and move in on these types of situations. There are other ways you buyer can force a refund at this point if he wants to.

I know you "won" the return case, but your buyer can certainly open an actual case via eBay CS (I had this happened once) or through PayPal if he wanted to.

If your buyer decides to dispute through PP, they are going to mainly look to see if the item was delivered, and if you refunded your buyer. If not, they will ask you to provide tracking, and may ask the buyer to return the item to you. That's the way it usually works with them.

The item is worth roughly 500 USD. It's the main reason I didn't automatically accept the return item case and chose to dispute it. Further he was trying to change the machine out.

How long ago did did this happen? Was it fairly recently? Is your buyer still trying to get his money back, or communicate with you.

Hopefully he goes away and doesn't do anything, but as I already mentioned above, he can always open a case on PayPal and funds will be held pending the outcome. Usually PP's process is largely automated for a "Not as Described" dispute. If there was no tracking on the order, they will ask you to provide it. Once it gets escalated to a claim, they may ask the buyer to return it to you. You can always show that eBay decided the return in your favor, but they will usually follow their own polices for these types of things.

The sad part is even if PP also decides the case in your favor, it doesn't mean it's done. If your buyer used his Credit/Debit card to pay for the item, he can always open a chargeback with his card issuer. That would re-open yet another case. I've actually seen where buyers can open cases twice in PP. Disputes and chargebacks are two different things, so handled differently.

It is a small victory, and he could chargeback or try another type of case, however he might also just go away... .

Yeah, he can open a case through PP, or his credit card. This may be a long way from being over.

Hope for your sake it's done...
