Default Collections agencies question.

I have a throwaway eBay account, which will soon be suspended, which has a balance of $150.42 that I owe eBay in fees, which I do not intend to pay. That same account is linked to a throwaway Paypal account which has a negative balance of about $500 because of disputes. Both accounts have all ⊗⊗⊗⊗ information except on Paypal which has a legit bank account routing/account number (which is how i withdrew the money), although the name I gave Paypal for the bank account is bogus. However, I have since closed this bank account.

My question is... what information will eBay or Paypal forward to collections agencies? Will they be forwarding the ⊗⊗⊗⊗ name/address? What about phone number, social security #, IP address? Do I have to worry at all about the collections agencies? Thanks!!

You are fine. They won't find you if it is a stealth account. I have thrown away many accounts like this over time. Stiffing eBay for their bloodsucking fees always makes my day. Even if you used your really information, there are ways to still stick them with the fees and tell their collections agency to pound sand. PM me if you need help.

I would say that if they don't have your SSN, collection agencies can't pursue you. If somehow they do, it is within your rights as a consumer to dispute the debt as not yours. There's a forum very much like this one that is geared towards proactively credit repair. It's awesome stuff really. Check it out: CreditBoards.com - Credit Help, Credit Repair Tips, News, Forums

Read about strategies like the "1-2 Punch."

Ok, thanks for your responses. I figured I was safe, but I'm still curious to know what eBay will do with this account. Will they forward the ⊗⊗⊗⊗ information to the collections agencies, and if so, what information will they forward to them? Is it only certain things such as name and address? NOTE: I never gave them a SSN.

Once again, thanks for your helpful responses

Sorry to Say , you dont need a SS# to put something on someones credit . of course it will more easy for a creditor if they do have it and it is up to them as it cost money to report to the Credit agencies and sometimes they may not report for a few years as they will bundle them to sell and than get reported ...DO 'NOT' think because you dont hear anything for a year or so you are in the clear , i have seen things show up 5-10 years later there is no expiration date for reporting bad credit only collecting and that will vary state to state .I had a $78 doctor bill show up 7 years later that i thought my insurance paid but they pooled with a bunch of ther collections
I worked in the world of finance for 15 years and have helped get things removed from peoples credit and i have actually put things on people credit when they did not pay me and i usually waited till they purchased a house so i could file it as lien .Why do you think people sometimes have things on their credit that are not theirs ? Your credit is mostly name and address , my dad had doctor bills when he died that took me 4 months to remove from my credit and i had to prove they were not mine as our names were simlar and we had both used my grandparents address at one time or another in the past .
Also when using false names for any type of account make sure you read the terms of accpetance /agreement .As something on your credit could be the least of your worries especially with anything FDIC insured.

A little over 2 yrs. ago, I had a paypal dispute decided against me on my very first account (which was in my real name and address). My account went negative almost 2k. I was absolutely not at fault, but was not supported by paypal since it was a snad claim through ebay. Eventually I got the collection calls (MANY CALLS). I immediately sent them a proper letter through both certified and regular priority mail, letting them know that I wished to dispute the debt and asking that the cease contact with me, and cease any actions against my credit unless they could prove the debt was rightfully mine to pay. They could not. The calls stopped, and my credit report is without mark from that. Just make sure you respond immediately or you may waive your right to contest the debt.

Looking back, that incident was what led me to this forum in the first place, so I am thankful for it in a way. I've learned (and continue to learn) alot about ecommerce, internet law, credit card practices, etc as a result.

You can put a collection on someones credit by reporting to one of the credit reporting agencys such as equifax or if you get a lien against someone it will often show up but the creit agencies will never let you know all the secrets kinda like ebay .

You did the right thing. The Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA: Fair Debt Collection Practices Act - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia) has rules that creditors have to follow and ceasing collection attempts upon request is one of them. (Collection agencies like to ignore this law and harrass people anyway because most people just don't know how to work the system.)

Check this out:

There is another act called the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA: Fair Credit Reporting Act - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia). What's special about this act is that there is a provision within it that says that the consumer is legally in their right to recover any damages received up to $1000.00 for any mistakes on your credit report, §616 of the Act, (US CODE: Title 15,1681n. Civil liability for willful noncompliance). And you can sue them in court to get it.

There are a lot of people on the forum I mentioned before (creditboards.com) that utilize these consumer protection laws to proactively remove "mistakes" and "old information" from their credit report because it is "inaccurate". They work the system much like many here work the eBay/PP system. Call me a rebel but I can't help but think that's a beautiful thing.

How do I get them to pound sand? I used my name, address, CC info and have $350 in ebay fees. Collections Agency just sent me a letter. I want to tell them to pound sand without hurting my credit. Let me know please!
