Default Is it true that Ebay is anti e-products?

I heard that Ebay generally does not like Software or e-book sellers and they often times kick these off the site.

How true is that statement?

It has more to do with the selling tactics commonly used by those kind of sellers.

They can't be totally against it since I frequently see digital items promoted on the main eBay splash page.

Just to add to what phaz0rz said, if you get your "software" or "ebook" illegally or not from a reputable wholesaler then you really should not be selling on ebay. That being said, so called e-product sellers join this forum all the time crying about how they aren't allowed to sell their illegal products on ebay.

People do sell e-products on EB and other sites, but it gets the fish eye from them, and is a high risk activity, mostly because of scammy behavior by many of those sellers.

You don't see many people selling e-products who are around very long.

Of course, on AZ lots of people write e-books, and certain fiction product lines such as 'bodice-rippers' and niche specialty soft core porn can produce a fairly lucrative ROI if you build up a following. Those products are formula writing and are pretty easy to produce without a lot of brainpower and limited skills.

You have to write 2-3 short novels a month, and at $1-2 per sale if they bring in $100 dollars per month each book in a half year or so you have a reasonable repetitive income stream.

I asked the question because I saw a seller getting banned the other day. He got all his listings removed and there's a red banner on his profile which reads "This seller is no longer registered with Ebay".

The account is 2 years old and has 5k+ in positive feedbacks. However, I noticed that in the last month the seller got 10+ negative fb. Maybe that was the reason behind it.

Well, that's only one aspect to it. Who knows how many cases were opened for not-working product keys...etc

As I said before, the guy had pretty much all listings veroed down. He was selling Microsoft Windows products. I looked up his Amazon account and he is still active there despite having 24% negative feedbacks for this month!!!

also many people were selling cheap $1-$3 ebooks purely to boost positive feedback for both buyer / seller - which became obvious to ebay

eBooks are not optimal for sales - MS keys and software game keys are horrible for buyers ripping sellers off and PP blocking

in the last month the seller got 10+ negative fb

Depends on how many positives he got in the same period, don't you think?

Probably has more to do with chargebacks.

There is a policy on eBay US about selling digital content. If you look at an e-book posting you may see posted it in the sellers descriptions (sorry - not posting a live eBay link).

Not sure if it's the same in Germany but you may find it by searching through the site and looking at peoples postings.
