Unhappy Impact of cancelling orders

Hi,

I might need to cancel 3 orders which haven't shipped yet. Is there a best way to do this without having a negative impact on my account (affecting Performance standards)

For example does it make a difference if I cancel order before/after marking as shipped? Should I state cancel reason as buyer requested/out of stock...

Your advice/tips would be much appreciated.

Thanks !

You have to cancel giving the reason the buyer requested it. Or you will be punished.

The buyers never query this, aslong as you are apologetic about having to cancel the order.

I would put out of stock.

Don't put it as being at buyers request if the buyer hasn't requested it

I would prefer to put out of stock but will try buyer requested cancellation if that means less/no negative impact on account..

The problem is you may just annoy the buyer doing that.

In my experience I've never had a buyer complain about the reason I chose. I'm not even sure they get to see the reason (could be wrong though)

I don't agree with getting a defect for going out of stock in the first place (it happens to everyone, after all)

I have mixed experiences with seeing the canceling reason. I had orders canceled on me without reason or warning, they just disappear from purchases and I had to dig around to find them. On the other hand I had customers complaining that their address is perfectly fine so why did I canceled the order.

Just today I received a negative feedback for cancelling an order as buyer request but at least I did not get a defect.
Buyer was obnoxious anyways though and the reason I cancelled.

You can't just message them? Send them a message telling them you are OoS and you can cancel the order or ship when in stock with estimate date. If they say cancel or no response put buyer requested which is even better as some buyers watch their purchases like hawks. So your late shipment rate goes up, big whoop. If you've shipped more than 10 packages in the last 3 mo you are fine.
