Default How do you guys handle these customers?

So i'm getting pretty tired of getting orders and then seconds later receiving an email from the customer asking to change the shipping address. Which I know is a scam to then file an item not received claim. So I have to go in and cancel the order and restock the item and send a message to the customer saying that I cannot ship to an address not on file. I get 2 or 3 of these daily and when you run 25 accounts it gets a bit old and time consuming. Should I just ship the items and ignore there message? Tracking will show item was delivered to correct address so they will lose the claim or should I continue to be nice and cancel there order?

I would not ship the item to the registered address. I would call eBay and see what they say. Issue is, either way they can get their money back.

So if you get 2-3 of these daily, how many orders do you have in total?
Just wondering, because this never happens to me.

I always receive this kind of scam emails, you should email buyer 3-4 times at different times asking whether you have places this order or not. Hopefully real owner of the account notices your email and asks you to cancell it. This accounts a hijacked by scammers. They also may have accessed victims email too. Best option is to send number if emails to verify that its geniune order. If victim reads your email they will ask for cancellation asap.

Yeah but i'm trying to same time and work not give myself more work. Messaging someone 2-3 times a day to confirm if they really placed an order is time consuming. 8 out 10 of these people are trying to get free stuff. If I ship to the address they ask me to then when they receive the product they claim that I sent it to the incorrect address. When I show ebay the email showing that the customer asked me to ship to that address they say that I can only ship to the address on file so I lose the claim. I know this because it happened to me years ago. It's a super old scam on ebay and i'm sure many new sellers get it done to them sooner or later. You are trying to do great customer service but in reality you are about to get scammed.

do you have written in your description that you will not ship to any address other than the address on the order at the time of the order?

and do you look at their past feedback to see if they are active instead of a buyer who has bought **** in the last year?

I think there are different things you can look at on their account to gauge whether the buyer is a fraud or not. I would have a hard time believing that you would have that many buyers trying to defraud you. Most are probably legit gifts to someone or something along those lines.

i think it is natural that we all do

"expect the worse and you wont be disappointed"

but i recall reading a survey a long time ago. i dont even remember how the gauged it. but it had said that more than 9 out of 10 people are honest. and i have tended to believe it.

Depends on the value of item .. i get these requests all the time .. i ship to whatever address they ask for dont get maybe a couple claims a year .. My items is 20-25.oo ea so not a huge loss . i tested the waters and it seems to be most of the requests is someone buying a gift they need sent to someone else .

I get this request almost every day on Etsy and always ship to the updated address. Not once in the years I've been selling there has the person been a scammer or opened a claim against me for this reason. I would probably be more cautious on Amazon though. I feel like Amazon buyers use Amazon so actively and are more likely to have their address updated. You don't buy everyday items on Etsy though so I can understand its extremely likely they haven't logged in or purchased anything a long time and their stuff is no longer up to date. Also Etsy buyers tend to be sending gifts more frequently so that makes sense. It's a tough call with eBay but if they don't stand behind you even with the internal message asking for an address change I don't think it's worth it to take the risk. It doesn't even make sense on eBay's end to side with the buyer. If a scammer managed to log in and order an item then they wouldn't need to message you and ask to change the address they could have just changed it in checkout. EBays policy is basically encouraging scammers because they found a stupid loophole that makes no sense. I hate eBay so much their buyers, their policies, and the way they treat sellers is the worst.

If you do not have time to message customers, then ship your orders only to confirmed addresses only, do not change shipping address. If anything goes wrong you can provide tracking numbers as a proof.

I guessed that was the case.

The IP really stuck out as we don't get too many members from Uzbekistan. Similarly we don't get too many members resurrecting 6 year old user IDs on here and making 50 odd posts in two days.

I've literally not received one of these messages in the past year. What is it that you're doing, that's causing this to happen? Any time I've used another address, it never caused any problems. Ebay will back you up if they see the message.
