Weird eBay error.
 

Has anybody else been getting a weird error right after entering the PIN when setting up an eBay seller account? It says something like "We cannot verify your identity. For more information please contact customer services."

Are you asking if I've tried multiple accounts? I made 4 accounts and it happened on all of them.

No, everything is identical to how it was a few days ago when I was able to make an account just fine.

Just opened a couple of seller accounts. Havnt seen anything of the sort.
These are US accounts though so maybe this is specific to the UK site.

Hello there,

You're not the only one getting this issue. I'm getting it from yesterday, after I tried creating a new seller account.
I hopped on chat with eBay, was told that it's an internal issue and that I should wait.
Another rep told me that it's my phone number, and another one that it's my PayPal address.
None of these could be the issue, as I've tried creating multiple accounts.

Anyways, the important thing I should say.
I've tried creating accounts on ebay.de, ebay.es, ebay.com.
ebay.de and ebay.es had the same issue, 'We cannot verify your identity. For more information please contact customer services.' in German and Spanish of course. Interesting is that when you click 'Contact customer support' it redirects you to 500 'It's not you, it's us' error page.
ebay.com worked flawlessly for me, I've got suspended because i don't understand stealths much though.

So it most likely is an internal issue indeed, however, not sure when they'll fix it. As it's already more than 24 hours this is happening.

A screen shot would be more helpful.

If it's not a temporary glitch, then it's most likely your phone service or IP

+1 on not seeing it on the US site and I made a few this weekend. could be an internal error, seems ebay/paypal always has a new bug

It must be some kind of temporary issue on eBay side.
I've just created account on eBay.com with same info as i did on ebay.de just with different email, just to test if it'll work out. And it did.
Hopefully they'll fix it soon, or we'll know what's causing this issue.
It's kinda stressful.

Same issue here with multiple accounts.

spoke with a few reps and they basically said that the seller-account isn't created (within the system).
Usually, once you get the pin and its successful that creates the seller account.

I chatted with support, a few got the account working right away, a few didnt and I called in. 50-50 on the verification there. A couple got "approved" and re-instated, a couple were lost.

Unsure if its an internal issue or a new "feature" - I opened 15ish accounts this weekend and ALL of them got the error.

This is using "online-virtual-numbers" (which usually work fine), but a I had a few that were on the blocked list (the rep told me lol).

Would be interesting what others used? Real sims or "virtual numbers"?

This is a common problem with ebay
This has to do with the login name
If you use an ebay id to log in,Consider changing your email address to see if you can log in

Had this exact error with two accounts. First they “unblocked” and it worked. Second I called in and he said it was an internal issue and that they were putting me on a user ID list and to try again in 24-48 hrs. Who knows what’s going on. And the first account got suspended indefinitely 11 min after posting first item. I had 20 buying feedback and still got suspended. Not sure why though. Had issues with the account since day 1 so couldn’t have used info that was already banned (even though it was stealth).

btw: error still appears and isnt caused by paypal for sure.
guess its just a system error and it doesnt matter how you create your
accounts or which number you use...

No it wouldn't, not if you haven't actually experienced it yourself, in which case you'd know what I was actually talking about just by me mentioning the error and the point at which it occurs.

I get this using real SIM cards.

It couldn't possibly work; he clearly hasn't read the thread properly as he seems to be referring to some issue that prevents you from even logging in, whereas the issue we are facing of course happens while logged in.

I've meanwhile spoken/chatted/messaged with multiple agents.

90% of them tie the issue to SELLER ACCOUNT CREATION. For some reason their system doesn't generate a seller account once the first item is listed.

The big question still is: Bug or feature?
