Thumbs down Has eBay EVER ruled against the buyer in a return request?

  1. I sold a new cell phone that was locked to a specific network (and noted this in the item description along w/service requirements to unlock, and listed it under the carrier)
  2. Buyer opens SNAD case saying he wants to return the phone because he can't get it activated on a different cell provider.
  3. eBay asks buyer to return the phone that is no longer new & I have to eat the losses.

I can't recall a single return request in the last few years that hasn't been decided in the buyer's favor, no matter how ridiculous the reason is. Have you guys experienced anything different?

I have about a 50% success rate with return requests that I allow to go to eBay.

Really? Do you have an example of one that was not decided in your favor (as a buyer) or decided in your favor (as a seller)?

Excluding cases where the buyer fails to return the item or something obvious like that.

I don’t have any success rate I get customers not wanting to send the item back for a refund and because I sell replicas of original products 9 times out of 10 I let them keep the item and refund them depending on what message I get and how they come across I still make a lot more than invested as long as they are in line and happy so am I lol

Most buyers don't read all description, so you must include essential info into title and pictures to make sure they could see it

Ebay support normally never look into details of product description or return reason. If buyer opens return case - you have to accept it.

It's rare, they decide inseller favor. buyer favor 9/10 times.
I'd take it back because if eBay decides in buyer's favor then it'll mark as a defect in your acc.

INAD and INR are first decided by robot,if you appeal, then a human would look into it.
But in your case, your buyer cant use the phone,so best is to return it to you and you resell and buyer buy again.
Ebay does not care if it has been open and no longer New .
Once a buyer bought a box of chocolate, take one bite and filed INAD, return the remaining chocolate.and get his money back.

If the buyer chooses item not as described and even writes in the box that i changed my mind ebay wont listen.
I've had to accept many returns and provide free labels everytime.
Curious what an appeal would be after receiving the item back?

We accept all returns, no contest and we pay return shipping. Once the tracking is live, we issue a full refund and let the customer know exactly what we have done, and they walk away happier than anticipated.

We do so because we sell items that we can afford to lose, and different types of losses are calculated during product research.

Once in a while, we come across a buyer who we have no other choice but to block.

An excellent synopsis of dealing with the tosser-buyer.

Since the trading account makes money for us (as sellers), we need to be aware of dealing with issues correctly.

Easier said than done. The holiday shopping season is over and a used phone is worth substantially less (I sold it to him factory sealed)

Just refund, thank them for being a c*nt (great buyer). Block them. Carry on selling.

I factor in the occasional thief in my business model.

it shouldn't be tho. Where's ebay's cost of doing business? Why is it always the seller that has to incur that cost? So I guess it's the cost of doing business with ebay. Which is kinda crummy. When a buyer blatantly opens a fraudulent return and even admits it in the return, ebay should step in. Their excuse of " well maybe the buyer made a mistake in what they said" is BS. They claim seller were calling in and getting returns closed because they convinced a rep based on the buyers own words, that they opened a wrong return. And then buyers were getting upset and calling in. How many times has ebay used small isolated cased, to screw over every single other seller? You know, like paying fees on shipping COST, because some buyers charged a lot of shipping to get around the rules. God forbid a billion dollar company can create an algo that understand when a seller used ebay's own shipping calculator to do shipping costs.
