Default Dialup Trick

If you want to speed up your dialup page loads use this trick.
From Firefox go to View-Page Style-No Style. This will remove almost all of the images and eventually you will get used to navigating the new look paypal or ebay pages.
I am sure some of you are already doing this but just thought id post it. If it helps one person then thats cool. After all this is all about "people helping people"

Not bad, it'll really speed up things. I've heard of this other software that shrinks the images to load faster. I'm not sure how well that works, but it could be something to look at as well.

The images are downloaded from the ebay servers, compression after that has no bearing on speed, our computers arent slow, our internet connection is.

Only way around is to get a third party to download the images for you at Broadband speed, compress them with some propriety software (kinda like Winzip) and send that to you, for the same software to extract on your computer.

But that doesnt work out because then ebay will get the IP address of the third party's server, not ours.

Would be strange to have a Canadian account, and an IP address in Indonesia or India. Also since we want separate IP addresses for dialup - it also wont work because ebay will (probably) always get the same IP address of the third party.

sure there is a compression service, just try out google mobile from the internet, it compresses all the images on its servers and then serves them to you, sort of like a compression proxy

Google

any searches you do will be super fast, I sometimes use it because I can dial up GSM through bluetooth to get super duper slow internet access (but from anywhere with a signal)

Is this just faster because it doesn't load images or is it saving time from not loading style sheets as well? I already have images disabled mostly and there's a button on my toolbar to quickly turn then on or off. I have images enables on aspkin for instance.

HI Jonas,

Can you explain what you use to add that button to your toolbar?

or you can use opera, in opra there's a button to disable images. so all your layout stays kind of legible, but loads a looot faster.

it loads images, but the images are compressed (basically, reduced in literal size) on googles server before hitting the browser. The webpages, are also compressed and optimized for mobile/cell phones which have less resources to play with. Consequently its super duper fast
