| GreenBean | 03-10-2008 05:37 PM | PayPal mandatory now in EBAY Australia - Alternatives? :D FYI for the Australians on the forum, here is what paypal australia will
allow:
You can have a paypal account in a name different from the name on the bank
account. If it is a personal account they say they want the family name to be the same. There is a way around this
You make a premier or business paypal account which can have a different
name. With these accounts you have more flexibility.
My interpretation of this is in Australia you have similar means of doing the same
as in the USA or UK. Think about it. |
Slavaja | 03-10-2008 10:42 PM | hey would it be possible to add a business account to the australian business paypal account? |
josipk | 04-11-2008 07:11 PM | PayPal mandatory now in EBAY Australia - Alternatives? I just listed some items and I got a message saying that ebay australia will require all listings from the 21 of May to accept paypal as payment option.
It didn't say if that is going to be the only paymetn option we will be able to accept or that we will only have to accept it on our listing.
This monopoly that they are trying to do is just going to kill them in the long run. |
tenggo | 04-11-2008 09:26 PM | Paypal Only hey there, check the anouncement board on australian ebay, that is just the first step, about a month later paypal will be the ONLY way to receive payments |
Slavaja | 04-12-2008 04:40 AM | yeh pretty crap i just read that as well |
jscan | 04-12-2008 04:54 AM | this has been posted already 3 times |
jscan | 04-14-2008 07:21 AM | eBay Australia's paypal now a must, hows it going to effect you? So as most of us know eBay is now forcing Australian users to use paypal on a majority of there listings coming may.
I was wondering, how is this going to effect your business?, are your profits going to take a battering?, will it make you change the products you sell?,
will you quit ebay and build your own site, or maybe you will give Oztion.com ago?
what are your thoughts for those who are Australian users. |
tenggo | 04-14-2008 08:22 AM | Its bad news yeah i have been pretty disappointed about it... already set up oztion account and will be telling all my customers to find me there, its a bit slow at the moment but lots of sellers are doing the same so hopefully word gets around... still list a bit on ebay but i really dont like paypal, i have had money taken, accounts frozen etc... the worst thing is that if our paypal account gets into trouble or frozen you cant sell on ebay (you can but wont get paid)cos the only form of payment is paypal... |
jscan | 04-14-2008 09:58 AM | yeah i have also been looking at oztion, a little slow however this latest decision by ebay mite throw a little trickle of traffic towards oztion |
Sammi007 | 04-15-2008 07:43 AM | Important Info: New Account Verification + Paypal Only!! Hi everyone,
After checking through the forums, I just realised that no one addressed the following issues with are extremely important and would affect all of us.
I have to mention, I know that all this is going to happen on eBay.com.au but I am not sure if it's going to happen on ebay.co.uk or ebay.com. Any feedback would be highly appreciated.
Here I go....
1. All items listed for sale on eBay.com.au on or after 21 May 2008 must offer PayPal as one of the payment methods.
2. All items appearing on eBay.com.au as of 17 June 2008 must be paid for using one of the following:
1. PayPal
2. Pay on pick up (i.e. paid for when picking up the item)
3. Visa/MasterCard (with transactions processed by PayPal).
No other payment methods will be permitted.
Please note a small number of categories are excluded from these changes. Find out about these exclusions.
And....
Today were starting a new initiative to help prevent account takeovers.
From now on the system will be noting the computers members regularly use when buying and selling on eBay. Then in June, we'll begin checking the computer you use to list an item to see if it's one you regularly use.
If you list an item using a different computer (e.g. at a friend's house, in a hotel, at the library) we may make a call to the phone number on your account to confirm that it's really you. We might also prompt you to verify your identity in other ways.
Having your current phone number on file helps eBay protect you. A wrong or outdated phone number will mean we cant verify your identity. This could delay your ability to list items or respond to your customers.
All this news is the worst thing I have ever heard.....I will be awaiting feedback from all of you.... |
mantisinc | 04-15-2008 11:56 AM | Oh my lord....! No changing IP addresses then guys :)
Looks like for you lot multiple accounts will have to be sorted through different routers.
Or, will they be looking at the MAC address of the PC? |
jscan | 04-15-2008 10:19 PM | Modee do you use any other auction sites other then ebay? |
imjustme | 04-16-2008 08:01 AM | What's the big problem with PayPal? I use about 15 PayPal accounts at the same time. Just sell $10 per day on each of the 15 accounts and you'll make $150 in a day :D |
Jonas | 04-17-2008 03:13 PM | Australia PayPal doesn't demand SS# so legit sellers will leave but scammers will stay. Scammers know how to rip people off on paypal and buyers paying bank account in paypal or their paypal funds will get screwed when the scammer has no paypal funds in their account. PayPal Australia lets scammers do ⊗⊗⊗⊗ tracking numbers as in YouTube - Ebay and Paypal - Today Tonight report
Australia doesn't have the "seller protection" so legit sellers are screwed and nobody in australia will do paypal to foreign countries at the very least. |
Jonas | 04-17-2008 04:11 PM | |
jscan | 04-17-2008 11:36 PM | hey jonas thanks for that article, i was looking for some news on this but was unable to find anything, thanks |
ebaysucksthebigone | 04-18-2008 06:46 AM | yeah this really does suck.. i read this on the register website and was shocked, especially because its hitting australia first, does this mean we are the highest risk in fraud compared to other countries ? im not sure.
nevertheless i cant believe they are forcing people to use and pay by paypal only, i guess when the time comes we will have to see how this pans out, im thinking a lot of sellers will be doing transactions out of ebay, due to this, they will probably use ebay to make the sale then be in touch with the member and make the sale out of ebay using direct deposit or other means... |
GreenBean | 04-18-2008 06:59 AM | xxxbone, that is mentioned as being again their new regulations..... having contact with the
buyer to do the transaction. I think OZ got picked as a try-out for the new policy. You
reckon there are a lot of sham artists in OZ? LOL.
The policy as you say does sux BIG time. |
scouse12345 | 04-18-2008 07:33 AM | Hey, you got sunshine.. them huge f*ck off Prawns size of dogs, and half decent cricket team.... whats the problem... :) |

jscan | 04-18-2008 08:34 AM | the more i read about this the more i get agitated |
