Default Causes of success for another seller

Why is it that a high volume seller, similar title/description, selling the same product as me, with worse pictures, and higher prices, selling 50x more than me?

Is it because they have higher feedback? Does eBay give them more exposure? Or a combination of both?

My feedback is pretty good, but nowhere near the thousands of feedback they have. Hmmm

Yes they will be moved to the front of the line with best match, if someone looks for a top rated seller etc etc.

Using awesome keywords in your title is key is getting some of the business away from them.

If a buyer uses google to search for a particular product and your keywords are a match to theirs you get a little better chance at it.

Listing times, days, etc matter.

For me, I have certain days I start and end listings, I stop listing past 9 pm my time etc.

You just have to take advantage of anything you can use to get the business.

Just goes to show how many morons there are in this world. I have been buying on eb for 15 years now and not once have used the idiotic `best match` sort. `Best match` for who??? I always sort on price+shipping.

Right. I see them list an item for 30 days, and have over 300 sold the first day. Most listings don't get full exposure for at least a few weeks. Amazing

As most of us "smart" money people do.

For auction type, I avoid to list my items from 10pm - 7am, or will be ended on weekends or holidays and I don't ship international.
However, listing exposure also depends on your ebay status as other mentioned here.

Also depends on the type of item you are selling. For example if it is a product that may have issues (electronics) they are going to buy from a company with a history of sales, which gives them confidence that if they run into issues they can get them solved. I know you are not selling vehicles, but imagine a dealership is selling 100s of brand new cars for $30,000 and have been doing so for 50+ years, well known, no issues, awesome track record, etc, and you are selling them for $28,000, but you are fairly new, little history, etc.

Most people are going to go with a company that has an excellent track record of everything that matters. This doesnt mean you are out of the game, but you need to get creative.

Why not ship international? You're missing out on tons of money.

There's only so much creativity you can have when dealing with eBay. Get too creative and it violates 1 of their many rules. I see I need to beef up my feedback, but all of the old methods are exposed and no longer work. I need to put my "thinking cap on"

I find as soon as accounts hit TRS status their auctions/BINs get more exposure and more sales. Longevity comes into factor too I believe. It doesn't take long to hit TRS if you're performing well.

And missing out on a ton of charge backs and scams from buyers.

Product dependent choice though.
