Unsold Items effect on my ebay account?

Please forgive me my ignorance, but I believe I read somewhere that the ratio of unsold items to active listings can have some negative effects on your ebay account?

I only have luck with short duration listings...so rarely list GTC or 30 days. I only do BIN...no auctions. Consequently, the 300 items that I have listed are continually expiring at the end of the listing period...I only have a basic store, so the relisting fees can really start to kill me after my standard 50 free are used up...

So sometimes, I don't relist right away and have a large number of items Unsold.

I eventually do relist most...but in the interim, is there something negative happening behind the scenes?

I have seen it effect your ranking if you dont have a lot of sales vs a lot of listings. Depends on what you're selling though and % of sales for the competition.

Oh, I have quite a few sales (not as many as I'd like) but I was referring to the short listings that expire and just sit in my Unsold folder cause of the relisting fees mounting up....

I understand that listing a huge quantity of an item and only selling a few can affect ratings...but I never have more than a qty of 2 in a listing....
