Something I tend to say when asking is that "the post office actually charged me $5 more than I expected for shipping, which I ended up paying. I hope you can appreciate that and leaving just a positive feedback would mean a lot to me. Thanks, have a great day"
Something along the lines of that. I usually word it much better though lol..Try to make them think you helped them out by not asking for extra money for shipping, or make them "feel bad"..Or I'll say I paid extra to insure the item for them. Or I'll say that I paid a bit extra for a shipping method that helped get it to them 1 or 2 days faster.
