Default [Help please] Buyer won't pay

Hi, I had a listing that just ended today and the winning bidder sent me a message that he is unable to pay. (He's a ⊗⊗⊗⊗ bidder as he only as 5 feedbacks in a span of 1 week and is a new ebay member).

What do I do now? Do I still need to open a case against him? or just go ahead and offer a 2nd chance to the next highest bidder?

my opinion: open a case and then after case has been closed and if they don't pay offer 2nd chance

I wouldn't say he's a f@ke buyer based off that...Seems like a typical new eBay buyer going on a little spree or something. No big deal.

Anyway just open a case as soon as you're eligible so you can recoup your final value fee.

Well based on his excuse, I doubt that he's a legit bidder. So I guess he didn't have the intention of buying my item in the first place.

Oh well, thanks for the response. I went ahead and opened a case to cancel the transaction.

Best option is to offer a 2nd chance to the second highest bidder and open an unpaid item case as soon as possible so that the buyer cannot leave feedback and you get your fees refunded.

I agree with James' option above.

Similar situation happened recently to me, r214. A new buyer bought an item and emailed me apologizing and that they couldn't pay.

I let the UPI (unpaid item assistant) handle it. I didn't want to risk opening a buyer's remorse case and waiting for the buyer to accept it - b/c if he forgets to hit accept and the time expires, guess what, you are responsible for the FVF's.

Exactly! Do what James said, won't be the last time that will happen buyers allways change there mind after they have won the auction they decide they don't want to pay for it or think they can pay for it on next payday, maybe in the future put in your description that if item is not paid for within 24 hours of the auction ended that it will be relisted, that's what I do and seems to get them to pay abit faster.

If he is unable to pay, send out the second chance and do the Cancellation FVF if he agrees (e-mail him and make sure he is aware)

I let the UPI take care of it too.
I have had buyers ask to cancel the transaction after they win the item, BUT if i send a cancellation request the ball is now in their court is it not?

Can they send a cancellation request that I can accept?

If they dont accept after 7 days, you can force the cancellation. (Or is it 4? Fairly sure it's 7 but am not on my account to check)

Part of doing business on ebay, buyers often don't pay. Just gotta learn to live with it and move on. File a case and relist it, or offer as second chance. It happens far too often to worry about it or stress over it.

One can think & guess all you want but the fact is you will never know. I don't wait. I usually have more inventory so I relist and move on. Don't get me wrong, I hate it! Second chance has not worked once for me in 6 months but I only sell 7-10 items per week that qualify. I would like to know what the stats are on 2nd offers though just out of curiosity. Marketing stats intrigue me. LOL
