You either provide your own SSN (which I would not like eB to have) or you ring up eB and try to negotiate a way out of providing the SSN OR...you walk away from the account.
These are the only options - you have to comply. Stealth Book only deals with the setup.
What were you selling? How did you set up the account? Important to discuss to understand WHY you were asked the SSN...
Yes, eBay does not normally ask for the SSN, that would usually come from PayPal. An if it happened right after the account was set up, they are suspicious about something. It is important to figure out WHY this happened.
Seems like one of those cookie hacks or whatever they call it. Phishing but not by email. Definitely sounds like you need to do an antivirus sweep. SSN is for Payment Processors not eBay. Unless you are selling lots on HALF.com this is the first I have ever heard of this.
As I was creating my ebay account with my personal information ie. name address etc, ssn is on that page and was in red to fill it out. I did not put it in / offer it but I am unsure if they will continue to request it. Again, it is on the page where you set up your account with address etc.
I thank you all for your help! I have NOT gotten a further request yet
