Putting items on sale. Anyone try it?

I've noticed some sales and what not. I wanted to put it on my main account with the store. Trying to give like 50% off on an item but I did it at the "Markdown Manager" selected the auction for the one I wanted 50% off and what not.

Anyone ever do this and get great results for items? More sales?

Depending on the time / season per item type.

When people want to buy, they will regardless of price usually.

But an orange tag that says 50% off is usually an attraction factor, plus if I'm not mistaken it does bump up the search result a little bit, from what I have seen per trend.

I don't think you'll have anything to lose by trying this if this is really want you want to do. DO give it a week or so at least.

I don't know what you are selling, but for me personally I never give extra discounts.
My prices are like MAP prices and it's a healthy price for as long as I can sustain it.

But even selling at a loss if it means giving a lot more exposure like what you are going to do, can be a good idea.

Just keep me posted how it goes.

one of the most important things is that everyone on your subscribers list gets an email when you put an item on sale. email marketing is hard on ebay these days but that is one of the best methods to convert interested and previous buyers to current customers.

In that case I wouldn't sell to those customers on eBay, rather they can buy from me direct.

It's like tunneling first time customers into long time buyers to your own retail business or so.

Some items it really helps. Especially if you have a longstanding listing with lots of watchers. Overall I do think it can help bump sales. Maybe 10% from my experience. I have experimented with marking up items just to put them on sale at the same price. It makes a small difference.

My opinion but most people I do believe have a bottom line total price in their head. Running a sale can help. But it still comes down to the final number. Especially considering how many competitors you have selling the same items.

I sell the item normally for $29.99 but I redid the auction a newer one at $99.99 then I did the 70% off so it was $29.99/$30 for it.

Naw no sales just 10 views since posted it so I had removed it. Got to try ton the cheaper items I sell.

Everyone who subscribed to your "favorite seller" on ebay. My ebay following(repeat buyers) exceeds 20% of consumable items and 35% on high dollar items. Oftentimes ebay buyers want to buy on ebay. It is nice to move them off of ebay, amazon, etc, but if they really want to buy on ebay, so be it.
