Question Ebay limits & how they decide who to limit

Question: Has anybody figured out the method to Ebay's madness limitation wise? For instance I got 2 accounts with 100/5000 limit and one has category limits, one doesn't!? Same exact amount of information given in both accounts? Why do certain accounts go 15 months 10/1000 and some go to 100/500 in 2 months? Theres obviously some algorithm or method that is used..anyone???

We are pretty sure darts and a large chart are involved in deciding limits....

Lots have tried testing this experiment, and the result has always been randomness. The way EB seems to operate, an algorithm just doesn't seem to be their cup of tea.

I think we should have Aspkin make a new sub-category on the forum under the topic of ebay selling limits. It wont be much to do with discussions like this, but rather when a seller gets an increase in limits, they simply post a thread stating things like:

1. what increase they received.
2. what were their sales pattern like.
3. how often they were selling.
...basically as much information as possible.

and hopefully in a few months we might be able to find a pattern that emerges...you never know.

People are not always going to be open about their selling patterns, how much they sell, etc.....Some things are still going to be anonymous.

Your right, any chance maybe to make that area anonymous maybe? We will never get a result otherwise. Period.

Its really not a good idea.

There really is no pattern. A lot of us have created enough accounts to know that

Here's the thing, if there was a pattern....we would of found it, increase selling limits are random. People are always wanting to know what the pattern is, what will do it, sadly NO ONE knows, no one has the secret formula!

There might be more global pattern in the algorithm, not just what you sell, how much you sell, how much demand but also the global amount of sales. I guess when the global amount of sales and total eBay revenue goes down, they will tell their employees to increase more limits which will be based on different algorithm. Different algorithms for different periods and different situations makes it look like its random.
I doubt employees can freely increase limits without following certain rules, unless they have nothing to be afraid off.

I tend to disagree, there are algorithms they follow to increase and decrease limits. Lets see the following:

1. Most natural limits are increased without a human touch, why.
2. Limits that go from 10/$1000 to 100/$XXXX can stay for a very long time in most cases until account gets in trouble
3. Limits can go from 10-20-60-180- or 10-30-90-270-
4. Limits that are saved from MC999 to 25/$XXXX, do not receive natural increases because of initial human intervention, they MUST be a code added to the account.
5. When a case is opened in an account even if it was UPI, sales are slow - definite drop in search ranking
6. Account without any open case, sales increase.
7. Account is TRS, sales increase
8. Defect rates a definite killer

These are just a few examples. If you see the limit increase pattern, there is a set algorithm. I can clearly see a geometric progression in (3) above. The algorithm is set to certain conditions that trigger the progression or regression in case of below standard.

I have seen a regression if the account is not doing well or "Below Standard". eBay tend to send warning, reduce selling limits monthly and impose the 21 cash hold in Paypal, until the seller loses the account.

I am sure, there are people who can to my little 2 cents.

They say to get automatic increases they want to see a conversion of 10-15%, this is the same if you ever were to call and try and get an increase. I think the conversion coupled with the amount of feedback and sales made plays the biggest part.

However, I have had increases from 25 -> 80 after listing 1 item, that's without even selling an item.....so who knows.

The 25 items limits I am talking about is common when you pass MC999 call-in for USA accounts.

there is no method whatsoever...i have two accounts from 2012 that are both top rated with 100+ feedback and the selling limit has been at 1250 for both since then..all you can do is try and call in(which i have done) with success and other times they restrict you from selling until you verify info..it really is hit or miss..just keep stacking accounts
