| | | yankee | 06-18-2016 09:03 PM | Re: Usps is absolutely ridiculous You can also just call into your post office and ask for a daily relay business pickup. It is that easy and they come monday-saturday and scan your forms late in the day. |
| phaz0rz | 06-19-2016 07:03 AM | Re: Usps is absolutely ridiculous My pickup location is a bit rural. I would feel bad if I had my mail carrier drive an extra 50 miles at the end of her shift every day, lol.
I am moving soon though so I'll keep that in mind :) |

In all reality, odds are, if you have no scan at all, the item was never brought to the post office.
Who brings items to the post office? That sounds incredibly silly to me. They will come to your door and scan your forms and pick up your items everyday except sunday for free. | Yankee this sounds good but if your selling high value items do you think it would be better to go to post office in person and receive an actual receipt instead? |

Takes all this stress off you.
Our CO accounts have home pick up...
Sweetest thing ever. Items are always traceable. Improved stress levels.

I have no clue what you mean by a receipt. What does it do? For your accounting records? If so just use a credit card..... |

I would not get this receipt if used carrier pickup from my location |
| yankee | 06-19-2016 01:38 PM | Re: Usps is absolutely ridiculous Who cares?
You lost me. You do realize that you track items online and that whatever service you used to print the label stores the tracking number?
Sorry if I sound like I am talking to a child about how tracking works, but I have no clue what in the world you would need a piece of paper for for tracking numbers. Even back in 2003 when I started selling online, tracking numbers were online if you printed a label using the internet and I can only assume you are doing this and not handwritten labels like rsot stupidly and consistently suggests. He would be the only person on this forum that ignorant to do that. |

My point was that if I get a receipt from the post office it is PROOF that I did in fact drop the item off. So in the event that I need to file an insurance claim on a package that never showed a single scan or did nit get received by the buyer I can.
Whereas if I was not given this receipt there's NO PROOF that I even dropped it off at the post office. (Which would mean as far as they are concerned means no insurance $$ since there's no proof of p.o. receiving the package) |

I am positive I shipped the item out..the point I was making is a simple one.
If you simply drop the item off at the p.o. and leave, then there is no transit status whatsoever within a week after drop off...you cannot claim insurance on the lost package because as far as the post office is concerned, leaving it in the drop box is as good as them never receiving the item in the first place
VERSUS
if you have the p.o. clerk scan in your items and PRINT OUT a receipt for you with all the items tracking numbers, you CAN CLAIM insurance if the transit status is for any reason not uploaded to ebay or shows as manifest the entire time BECAUSE you have proof of receival from the p.o. which is the RECEIPT |
| yankee | 06-19-2016 06:29 PM | Re: Usps is absolutely ridiculous No, what I am saying is that if you operated like a business, packages will be scanned and these time wasting disasters no longer exist.
You think very micro. Fix the cause of the problem is typically a better option that putting a bandaid on a broken bone while creating the least productive use of time and resources.
Would Walmart, Target, BestBuy etc....send a minimum wage earning employee to the post office to stand in line and get a "receipt"? Of course not. They are ba business and operate like one. They have UPS, FEDEX, USPS come to the door and perform the service in front on an employee for free.
Anyways, do as you see best. Learning from mistakes is not always easy for people but the ones who learn from them the fastest reap the greatest results. |
| GreenBean | 06-19-2016 06:39 PM | Re: Usps is absolutely ridiculous If you have operated like this before you joined here, then you need to take a quantum leap and find the systems that work for you.

OP claims sales near $90k week. I'm blow away someone can operate that kind of business and not understand shipping. Assuming everything he has posted is actually truth. |

In the future, just take it to another post office. Your packages aren't scanned in because the employees there simply decided not to do it, most of the time my packages are scanned in an hour after they're dropped off. Most of the time when the initial post office doesn't scan it in, it will update when it reaches the first sorting facility or reaches the buyer's delivering post office. | Matthewaj is very right. I know for a fact my USPS branch does not scan very often. When I go to another branch they get scanned every time. Yes USPS does suck but it would be hell without them. As long as there is a solution can go on to the next challenge. |
| pennslmmer | 06-25-2016 10:26 PM | Re: Usps is absolutely ridiculous I'd advice that you wait in line and have them weight and scan the package. Get a receipt as well. I had buyers open cases claiming that I sent them empty packages. Luckily, those receipt I kept shows that the package I dropped off weight 4lbs. If the item cost $100 or more, I'd not advice for you to hand it to the mailman or just left it at their counter because someone could just take it and walk away. And of course, ALWAYS insure your package. |
