Likelihood of Various Returns Fraud vs eBay's Dispute Resolution
I have a buyer requesting a refund for a $250 watch under the premise that it arrived with the band broken from the watch and "they realized it's not even a brand name band."
Instinct tells me fraud is afoot for a couple reasons. I'd appreciate everyone's input as to what route I'm least likely to get cheated.
The listing explicitly noted the original band had been replaced with a generic band. User has 8 buyer feedback. Searching users name on google returns that he's an attorney. Also, he's been arrested twice.
--charged with harassment, criminal trespassing, criminal threatening
--five counts of stalking
Instinct tells me there is nothing wrong with the band. The only way it could have been damaged is if it were forcefully crushed during shipping. The buyer makes no mention of the package getting crushed. My concern is the prospects of various outcomes.
1. Buyer returns damaged same model watch they happened to own...with my watches caseback so at least it matches my serial number.
2. Buyer returns an empty box to me.
3. The listing stated no refunds, I shipped with signature requirement yet no insurance. If I deny the refund and offer $20 in lieu of the purported broken band, eBay will just give the individual the funds without my recovering the watch.
