Exclamation Collection Agency Calling

Hi There,

I was a seller at eBay with 100% reviews, always paid all my fees correctly.
A few months ago I cancelled my bank account since I had just opened a new one at a better bank, and because of that when eBay tried to charge me for the selling fees, it didn't work. They tried a couple times until I noticed that they were trying and not succeeding.

I then logged in, changed my bank account to my new one, but I noticed that they were charging me for the selling fees plus like $10 per time they tried charging my account and couldn't.

I decided to pay only the selling fees that I rightfully owned and not pay the almost $30 bucks they were charging for charge return fees.

Because of that, they cancelled my account and sent this debt to collection agencies.
They had sent it to one, which I did not pay as I told them i did not agree with the charges.
And now they sent it to another one.

They don't have my SSN, they don't have my correct address and I don't have any credit contract with them (that I know of).

Can this collection agency mark my credit because of it? how would they do it without any of my right information (they only have my name).

Thank you!

Debt collectors DO NOT require your SSN and/or DOB to put things on your credit reports. Either pay what you owe, or consult with a consumer attorney who can guide you accordingly. Not doing anything will cause more harm than good for your credit.

Just pay the $30 and get it over with. At the end of the day, it's your fault those fees were incurred. eBay isn't picking on you.

Phazorz has a great point.

Is your credit history and your trouble worth $30?

Just get it over with and pay what you owe.

I would agree with you all IF they gave me some sort of notice before making all those charges.
I only noticed because my bank sent me an email saying charges were still trying to be made in my account and to make sure I would change any place that it was tied to.

A simple email saying they were not able to charge your account, to please review the payment information would be nice.
But purposely making several charges even though the first one failed just to collect "return" fees is in my view a very nasty practice.
As I mention before, I never not paid, and I even made sure to pay every seller fee I owned.

I don't think "just pay up" is the right thing, otherwise they will continue to charge us for stuff they shouldn't.
Same thing if your bank charges you a $10 fee that you have no idea where it came from and it's just "it's only $10 bucks, not worth fighting it"

And I tried calling them and talking to several representatives, but I was never able to get someone to review this, it's all passing from one guy to the next.

Agree or not, you're wrong. You signed a user agreement. That was all the notice and right they need.

You were too lazy to read it ( seriously, none of us read them, we all click the 'accept' button! ), and it's in there.

They don't need to send 'a simple email' to remind you. You're supposed to be a grown up, responsible person.

You want them to waive the charges because you screwed up. They don't have to. Consider it a cheap lesson at the cost.

Pay your bill or take the credit hit.

I agree with this. I think you could consult this problem to an attorney and see if he/she could help. I have also read an article that might be useful for you at https://www.whycall.me/news/how-i-be...ebt-collector/. Hope this helps.

There is a way to stop the calls from a harassing creditor, but you should consult an attorney before you do.

I am quite familar with Consumer Law, the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA), and Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA).

You can send them a C&D (cease and desist letter) along with a formal request for Debt Validation. If done correctly, the calls will stop, at least for a time. The debt may get sold to another debt collector however.

This does not make the debt go away. It can often be settled for pennies on the dollar.

The bottom line is if you are being harassed by a collector, you are advised to consult a Consumer Law attorney. You may qualify for upto $1,000 per violation of the FDCPA.

OP should have made changes to his payment account when he switched bank.
But I have never heard Ebay charges $10 per attempt?
IS IT in the Ebay agreement?
if this were an active bank account and does not have enough fund,he would pay NSF besides ebay $10,it could easily be $45 or more.
multiply it 3 times,it comes to $135.
What Paypal does in this situation is that it would delink his bank account .

There are sellers who just refuse to pay their bills at the end of the month.ETsy has now opted to take its share from the payment every time an item is sold,it used to bill the seller each month for listing fees (20 cents per listing) and the FVF,but no more.

I honestly wish eBay would do the same thing. And if they could find a way to add in the income taxes I'll owe the IRS at the same time.. that would be great.

You knew you had to pay eBay fees at the end of the month. You also knew that eBay was charging your closed account. Therefore, you knew your fees were not paid, yet you chose to continuly not pay your fees. EBay sent you am email the first time your bank denied the payment. They also sent you an email the 2nd and 3rd time. The fact that the collection agency is "harassing" you is something you knowingly brought on yourself. You owe eBay the $30.00. Stop whining about it and pay it. Your all mighty attitude has now bit you in the rear.
