Default Need "phone verification" now?Is this a new trick up their sleeve from ebay.

Well, I created a new EBay account to sell on, and I created an item shortly thereafter, 1 item, starting bid of $0.99. Completely new Paypal, and a new pre-paid card to go along with it, I receive this message about an hour later.

Quote:
Attention!

Thank you for selling on eBay. In order to maintain a safe and secure online marketplace, eBay may require additional verification for newer sellers from time to time. Your listings have been placed on hold until we can speak with you.

To prevent your account from being closed, please contact an eBay representative within the next 48 hours by following these steps:

Step 1: Call us toll-free at 1-866-643-2959
Step 2: When prompted to enter your telephone number PIN, enter 123456

Our offices are open:
5am to 10pm PST Monday - Friday
6am to 6pm PST Saturday - Sunday

We appreciate your cooperation in verifying your account as quickly as possible and welcome you as a valued member of our trading community.
Anyone else ever get this? It is an MC010, just in case you are wondering, and yes, I used all false information on my account. The only variation between my EBay and Paypal account is the street address, but this has never been an issue in the past.

Should I actually attempt to verify my false identity? And moreover, CAN I?

Anyone else ever get into this situation?

Thanks!

For the record, I was suspended long ago because a competitor stole my contact information and used a 0-feedback account with it to frame me for bid shielding. I can stealth my way around it for stretches, but I am always caught due to my excessive sales (MC115--abusing Ebay, go figure)

Did you use a ⊗⊗⊗⊗ invalid phone# on account? That will trigger MC010.

nothing new, you messed up somewhere

Making eBay safer: stronger seller verification

How is eBay strengthening verification of new sellers?
eBay is helping reduce new-account fraud through stronger verification of new sellers, including phone verification during seller registration or verification through Live Chat. After their first few listings or for high value listings, new sellers may also be required to be PayPalTM Verified.

How is eBay using identity confirmation to help protect all sellers?
As we announced in April, eBay began noting which computers members use to conduct their buying and selling activity. Starting in July, if you are a seller, and you attempt to list an item from a different computer—for example, from a PC you are borrowing in a hotel or library—we will ask you to confirm your identity.

Confirming your identity is easy. When prompted, you can choose to receive an automated call to one of the numbers you have registered with us. If this is not possible, we will provide alternative methods, such as confirmation through Live Chat, or an automated call to a new number. These alternate methods will require you to provide additional information, such as the correct answer to your secret question.

^^^Nothing new as stated. Been in force for the last 14 months at least.
Suggest you read carefully the changes if it has been a long time since you made an account. Much has changed & if you are not up to date, the accounts will be compromised

I actually am "in the game", and found that usually, when one of my phone numbers becomes "burnt out", I get the immediate MC115 suspension, no verification opportunity is given.

I have never needed to actually "call EBay" to verify my identity after making a seller account, even if my phone number was deemed "invalid".

In the past, it would simply result in me being kicked off for "abuse".

I have made a few accounts recently and havent seen this type of restriction, you should try calling them to see what type of information they are going to ask you for and keep us informed just in case this is maybe a new trick up thier sleeves.

I think it is likely tied to the usage of my phone number, as an buyer account I used has it as the primary contact number before it was flagged and MC115'ed. Shortly after, my seller account was linked, and I had to create a new seller account.

I always check to see if my phone numbers used are still valid (and it was, for once), but it appears that it may still be flagged in the system.

Oh well, viva la Google voice. Ironically, I may have to purchase another 5 invites for 99 cents off EBay >_<.

Confirmed it was my phone number--I got a "new front", and my listings are now unimpeded.

I am having the same problem. I created a new eBay with "⊗⊗⊗⊗" information and received that message. Am I receiving it because it's somehow linked to my old account? How did you get around this?
